David Wright, who has picked up the nickname “Captain America,” went 2-5 with five RBI, in Team USA’s 7-1 victory over Puerto Rico in Miami last night.
Wrights hits included a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the 8th inning to seal the victory for Team USA.
So far in the World Baseball Classic, Wright is hitting .438 with a .526 OBP and 10 RBI, including a grand slam against Italy this past weekend.

Brian Erni, MetsBlog.com:It’s hard to imagine a better story line for Team USA. All tournament, Wright has registered big numbers, and last night, he did it with his friend Sgt. Felix Perez on hand. The best news for Mets fans? Wright seems very content to take pitches the other way – a tell tale sign of when Wright is at his best offensively. Tonight, both of his hits were scorched to the opposite field. If he can keep this up, the “captain” may be poised for another big start.
Team USA will return to action on Thursday night against the Dominican Republic. Game time is 7:00 pm.
