Video: Jeurys Familia bullpen session today in PSL

“Familia has impressed me on a lot of different fronts,” Paul DePodesta recently told MiLB.com. “For such a young guy, I’m impressed with his mental discipline and mental focus in addition to the stuff. All these guys have electric stuff, and that jumps out at you right away.”

However, earlier this month, ESPN.com’s Keith Law left Familia off his Top 100 list, saying, “If I thought there was any chance he could start, he would have made the list, but he’s headed for the bullpen with a plus fastball and not enough command or secondary stuff to remain in the rotation.”

Familia was mostly rated the team’s third best pitching prospect behind Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler as top prospect lists were published during the last few months.

Nevertheless, last week, Sandy Alderson told reporters it was unlikely that Harvey, Wheeler, or Familia would be on the team’s big league roster early in 2012.
