Final Score: Mets 6 Pirates 5

The Mets (72-84) defeated the Pirates (76-80) by the score of 6-5 this afternoon at Citi Field.

The Least You Should Know:

R.A. Dickey became the first Mets pitcher since 1990 to win 20 games, as he earned the victory by allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out 13 over 7.2 innings pitched.

David Wright gave the Mets the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with his 21st homerun of the season, a three-run homerun to right-centerfield.

Daniel Murphy was 2-for-4 with a run scoring single and two runs scored.

Ike Davis and Scott Hairston each drove in a run.

Jon Rauch allowed two runs on one hit and walk over 2/3 of an inning.

Bobby Parnell picked up his fifth save of the season.

Congratulations to R.A. Dickey on earning his 20th victory of the season. That is quite the accomplishment for the knuckleballer. It’s also very well deserved as he nearly led the league in ever significant pitching category coming into this afternoon’s game.

As Mets fans, we will all be biased on the fact that Dickey should win the National League Cy Young, but the truth is, he deserves it. For me, it’s not just the statistics and the 20-win season – which are certainly significant – but, it’s Dickey’s ability to control an unpredictable pitch. He has mastered his craft. Add all of that up and no matter what happens in his final start R.A Dickey’s name should be engraved on this year’s Cy Young Award.
