The NY Times reports that Mets officials and the agent for Jose Reyes, Peter Greenberg, spoke yesterday regarding the youngster’s potential switch from shortstop to second base. The Times quotes Greenberg as saying, “[Reyes] took it as everybody thought he would. It wasn’t his first choice and he’s never played second base in his life, but if they felt it was the best thing for the team, he’d do it.”
Newsday believes the Mets have moved far enough ahead with Kaz Matsui that a deal could be done within the next week. Newsday reports the Mets have made Matsui an official offer of three-years, $20-million. Matsui has listed the Mets, Dodgers, Mariners and either the Angels or the Yankees as his other possible destinations.
The Seattle Times suggests that the Mariners have had little progress with Matsui
