They have 2  300 hitters on this team. One is hurt (Murphy), the other they won't play (Campbell),

why?

Losing is bad enough. Losing to the slop Phillies is worse. Fire TC ASAP.

I'm not sold that Alderson is THE problem here. Sure, the CY signing was bad and so far Grandy is a bust. I won't recount them here but some moves have been strategically wise and the farm system is at least delivering pitching quality...despite the hellscape of Vegas.

We all want better results and we want them now. However, we all know the real problem underlying the organization is Ownership. Being an executive, Alderson isn't going to throw his paymasters under the bus - no one with half an ounce of brains and who values holding a job for very long does this.

I am not optimistic that the team will compete until Ownership changes and I think that's just a sad reality. We may get a year or two where they do but what could utterly derail even this is if Grandy and DW are in permanent decline. We won't know that until well into next year. But if they are, the team goes from needing a SS and OF that can hit, to having half the offense needing replacement and a lot of salary underperforming. That would blow up 2015 and likely beyond.

Sandy & Co have to go. They have all become too accepting of the losing and excuses. The goals keep dropping. ... 90 wins, then meaningful games in August, then very important to finish around .500, now stay out of last place.

Under .500 for 6 years in row and all 4 with sandy & co. Time to go.

I know a lot of people don't think that there is a difference between finishing 4th or last but there is. Playing for some reason other than your personal stats has to start somewhere. Show a little pride and scratch, claw, kick, pull hair , whatever it takes to win this game. Right now they are one demoralized, listless bunch. If you can't hate the Phillies after whats happened over the last 6 years then you have no guts whatever.

Today is last day of trading to make post season roster. Trade entire team except duda and legares for a bag of dog poo and we can play cricket in citifield until October.

This team has not had more than six hits since last Sunday. Duda and legares are the only ones producing. I was hoping that Murphy would hit third but we may never see him again. Herrera needs time in AAA. Flores is disappointing. I think tejada is actually a better hitter at this point. Wright is in decline. He had many great years. So stop blasting him. Should be forced to get exam to see if playing hurt.Campbell can hit. Should be starting. Mdd. ey. niewenhuis. Yawn. Travis. Eh. Granderson totally blows. Five starters. No fault there. Even relief staff decent. Very sad. Another disastrous season.

This team needs to make changes, but as one astute poster said, once the owner is letting the fans pick the manager, players etc.. It's really all over. You want to see things even worse, start listening to the opinions of the "paying customers"

All of the Phillies dinosaur jokes, and saying how bad their team is all year, they're .5 game behind the Mets for the basement.

This team is going to win less than 74 games, and finish in last place. This is not progress, and shouldn't be acceptable - but it is to ownership.

TC has got to go, he over manages the youth and under manages the vets, he is so afraid to offend his vets and continues to leave them in spots in the order that their #s don't justify. Granderson is hitting .210 leading off and .105 batting 2nd but .339 in the 5th hole, DW should not be hitting 3rd. Herrera and denDekker were leading their leagues in hitting while batting either 1st or 2nd where they are obviously comfortable and very productive. Herrera, denDekker, Flores, Duda, Wright, Granderson, dArnaud, Lagares. Nice to see that we have great minor league Mgrs but why can't we have one managing our big league club, some players really excell in different spots in the order, check the numbers and play to their strengths not to their years of service, when you bring guys up that are leading their league in hitting batting 1 or 2, slide them into that role ie; Herrera and denDekker or when you have an RBI machine come up, put him in the middle of your order and give them a real chance to do the same for you.

I'm in Atlanta and I purchased Extra Innings to watch this enigma of a team and now I just watch a couple of innings and as soon as the other team scores...it's over, time to watch something else.  This team stinks royally and though DW has given us many good years, he's now on the downslide hanging on to GRANDERSON's shirt for the ride to mediocrity.  Wasted great pitching all year with this BAD offensive team.

anthony G. Decesare

If I was granderson or wright I would have never signed here in the first place. If I'm an elite hitter, I'm not signing with this team and their big pitchers park in future either. Their ownership and Alderson make this organization look like a Mickey Mouse franchise. Any of you fans who spend money to go watch this team and put money in the Wilpon's pockets are a big part of the problem too and u should be ashamed of yourselves.

U mets fans want to make a statement, don't go to the games, let the owners and players of this organization see what an empty ballpark is during games and start a rally outside the commissioner's office in the city as well as another outside cityfield with picket signs protesting the product that's on the field and demanding the ouster of the Wilpon's. U guys start that up and I'll show up for that.

Jeff, you're losing all your Fans. You cant even give tickets away anymore.

It's time to the rebuild right- from the top down!

Call Uncle Saul for money, try to get a respectable Payroll for your team ($120 Million?)

If not SELL THE TEAM!

Fire these clowns in the Front Office- they cannot assemble a Winning team. It's painfully obvious now.

Terry Collins is a buffoon- Fire Him!

Promote Wally- if for no other reason, do it because that's what the majority of Fans (potential customers) want.

Get one of these young GMs interviewing for the San Diego job. They are hungry to prove themselves. Let them do it here, for a lot cheaper than you're paying these 4 idiots.

You want people to come to Games, put a good product on the field. This is how you do it.

We got rid of CY and now it's time to part ways with Granderson who looks more and more like Jason Bay all over again...what a terrible signing.  SA really screwed this team up with the signing of CY and GRANDERSON, both salaries could have been used to lure CRUZ.  He stinks as an evaluator...the YANKEES knew that GRANDERSON was starting to go downhill and let him sign elsewhere.

As always Collins made a stupid comment how would he feel after seeing the death of you mother and traveling a bit during these last days. Maybe Collins  would do cartwheels when a family member dies

Granderson is the reason that SA will not spend .....He is now paranoid that he will screw up with free agency............Sounds crazy, but it has to be messing with his head.......Should have kept Reyes.........He was a bargain.........Sandy is stubborn to a fault.......

While DW probably is injured, he is swinging at balls off of the plate and taking hanging sliders for strikes........Its mostly in his head.......He will bonce back next year......Grandy needs to change his swing.......

And the stupid FO decides to make bubblehead dolls of a guy batting 215! What a joke! They should have made dolls of Wheeler instead or even Murph! Grandy dolls are piece of craps that shake and move!

The"Need To Know" should include the Mets failure to further capitalize on their only real threat of the night...leaving bases loaded w/ 1 out and not scoring any further runs in the 7th...capped off by a Granderson K to end the threat...on his Bobblehead night. A microcosm of the Mets offensive failures this year.

Mets aren't winning 90 games this season.

josef

There is no passion, no emotion, and no leadership on this team! It starts with Alderson, moves down to Collins, then to Wright, and to the rest of the team via osmosis!:)

Nobody seems to care enough about winning, and winning by all means necessary, doesn't mean it has to be done through the use of PEDs! Some love and yearning for winning, some sense of responsibility, and challenging the status quo (the status quo here is taking losses in stride and be OK with them) is desperately needed, and the current cast of characters associated with the Mets lack this badly!

A true captain stirs the ship, saves it from sinking, takes charge, shows passion and emotion, and never accepts losing! It is all about the attitude! You can have lots of talent, but you will AWLAYS underachieve, if you have zero passion and lack the proper winning attitude. David Wright lacks that attitude, despite his talent, nice community service, being a great all-around guy, etc! He is more of a politician dressed in a Mets uniform, spreading goodwill, than he is a true leader in the tenches leading, saving, and guiding the team. That is what the C on his shirt should stand for! Captain, not Community Service Ambassador!

Those bubbleheads of Grandy should be burned in a bonfire! He is also another perennial loser! He and David Wright do not and will not provide the necessary veteran leadership, passion, and toughness this team desperately needs. Backman can do it, albeit for a few seasons, but he will be a step in the right direction for the Mets!

Mets post-game guys defending Sandy's 90 win comment because "they need to change the mentality." No -- you know what needs to be changed? The owners, the payroll, and the players. Change that and the mentality would inevitably follow. Trying to change the mentality while leaving those three things in place is a PR exercise to fool the ignorant and the gullible -- and perhaps themselves.

@Söze, Keyser

Anderson wasted 90 mill this offseason. why do you think with a bigger budget he can do more

Did you watch the last 2 games? Flores is finally hitting...Do you recall in last nights game that Flores had a clutch hit to right field for the Mets first run? Night before he had a double and hit by pitch and Byrd robbing him of another double? Home run the week before...and he is disappearing? In that case I wish everyone would "disappear"..

@lindro88  the paying customers appear to have it right...management has been terrible in their decisions, and most decisions come a day late and a dollar short.  So yes, I would listen to the fan base as some have some very legitimate suggestions and ideas.

Grandy's not an elite player. The Mets figured he'd become one if they gave him elite player $. Shockingly, it hasn't worked out.

Understand the frustration. We all have it.

Hiring Wally, or anyone though, just because the fans supposedly want it, is a bad idea usually. Maybe in this case it wouldn't be a bad idea, but in general...no way.

josef
josef

@pologround DW is standing much further back from the plate than he should be, is using his top hand way too much, and is hoping and guessing, instead of having a game plan when he is up there.

He is guessing and swinging, hoping the bat will somehow hit the ball, takes the pitches he should be swinging at, swings when he should take, and doesn't deliver when there are men on base, especially in late innings and especially with 2 outs, and RISP!!

josef
josef

@tigerinblu And watching Grandy and Wright bat is like being on the Green Mile, waiting to be executed and be put out of your misery

josef
josef

@Söze, Keyser Waste of 40 million dollars on 2 losers, Grandy and Wright! They are both supposedly healthy, with no passion, no guts, and no sense of urgency! neither one is a winner, so we need 2 or 3 guys who are, before we can think winning days ahead!

josef
josef

@JimmyBX If they fire TC, sign two legit bats, hire Backman, and relegate Captain Loser and Grandy to the lower part of the batting order, they will win 90 games! That would happen in 2015, if Alderson does the right things! That is a big if though!!

victor_zam

Well, said but he won't take orders from TC therefore he is not getting hired.

Söze, Keyser
Söze, Keyser

Both are having off years, particularly Grandy. These two have to pick it up next year or all the young pitching talent won't appreciably change the team results.

xplr
xplr

@josef This will never happen. They are paying these guys almost half the payroll. And Sandy will never spend the money to get 2 legitimate hitters.

josef
josef

@victor_zam He would be replacing TC, and would have to deal with Alderson. It would work for 2 to 3 years, the win totals will go up, and the team might make the playoffs too, under Backman, After the 3rd year, he would wear out his welcome and will get fired, but by then the team would have the right attitude, and the next manager could take them to the next level! Backman works as a stepping stone!

josef
josef

@ericccb @Jay Cross That is why TC keeps batting Captain Loser 3rd, regardless. He has 2 f...ing extra base hits since the All Star Break, both doubles, no HRs, with a batting average approaching 100!!

josef
josef

@Söze, Keyser "Off year" is the understatement of the year! An off year for Grandy would have been batting 240 to 250, and for Wright would have been batting 275-285.

In an off year, they would both have several more HRs and RBIs!

They are having a "disastrous year", not an "off year"!

josef
josef

@Söze, Keyser Chances of both picking it up simultaneously are very low! Grandy is not going to be a 2011 version, and Wright would never be a 2012 or 2013 version either.

At most, they will both be somewhere between the lows of 2014 and their past, mostly half way between what they are now, and what they used to be!

And that won't be enough to carry the team, unless you can get 2 legit, CONSISTENT, bats with decent power, and more importantly, some passion and winning attitude

Söze, Keyser
Söze, Keyser

I was being charitable...esp with Granderson. Wright has had an "off" year before and bounced back. Although he's not old, we've seen others fade fast before. So I'm a bit concerned but not overly. Granderson though...looks like Jason Bay redux. That's a problem.

josef
josef

@Söze, Keyser Grandy will be the Jason Bay 2.0, when his contract finally ends!

DW's rapid decent is somehow very similar to what happened to Howard Johnson in the late 80s.

HoJo was an All Star, and among the league leaders in HRs, RBIs, SBs, Slugging, etc. for a good few years!

Although he had less talent than Wright, he was more clutch!

In fact, he and Barry Bonds were the only members of the 30-30 Club in back to back years and were often compared to one another as the biggest bats in the NL. etc.

Sadly, the bottom fell out on HoJo so quickly and within a couple of years, he was a liability and totally washed up! Suddenly the pitchers had figured him out and he was done! It was sad to see.

Of course, Barry Bonds said hello to PEDs, and joined the dark side of the force, and his career took off, until he was caught!

Wright's rapid decent is reminding me of HoJo's. Back then, people were also looking to find an injury as an explanation for his rapid decline, and nothing except routine minor injuries was ever found!
