The Nationals and Dan Haren are in agreement on a one-year, $13 million deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com:I think that’s an overpay for Haren, but it’s only a one-year commitment. It also eliminates a suitor for Zack Greinke, as the Nationals were reportedly toying with the idea of signing him. But this could be significant for the trade market. The Nationals were reportedly interested in trading Michael Morse and Danny Espinosa to Tampa Bay for either James Shields or Jeremy Hellickson yesterday. That return could have served as a baseline for what the Mets could get for one of their starters on the market. With the acquisition of Haren, it doesn’t appear that trade is going down, and so the market for starting pitching will have to define itself elsewhere.
