The bullpen market, and what's your confidence in Sandy

According to Ken Davidoff in the New York Post, relievers like Minnesota’s Matt Capps, Oakland’s Grant Balfour and Houston’s Brett Myers could be available in trade before the July 31 deadline.

However, Davidoff explains, “You shouldn’t expect to see the Mets sacrifice pieces from their farm system, which is climbing back into respectability, to pick up a relief pitcher.”

Matthew Cerrone: He better not. I enjoy this specific team a lot. They’ve been fun to root for. June is a bear, but if they can fight through it there is a good chance September can be fun again. However, to disrupt future plans for a chance in September, I think, would be foolish. Instead, I’d like to see Sandy put on his thinking cap and figure a way to shuffle up the bullpen. I’d love to see some combination of small trades for established relievers, say one of Capps, Balfour and Myers, while also promoting a young arm or two from his own far system and looking to trade away Frank Francisco and Tim Byrdak. In other words, just switch it up, create a new confidence and shed what isn’t working…
