Terry Collins said today that Ronny Cedeno will join Justin Turner on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo this Friday, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Rubin.
However, Collins says neither player will be available for big-league action this weekend, as both need extra at bats in their rehab.
Matthew Cerrone: The more I look at this, the more I am very curious how the Mets intend to handle bringing back Cedeno, Turner and Ruben Tejada, while also carrying Andres Torres, Jason Bay and one back-up catcher. I mean, someone will have to go (in addition to Omar Quintanilla, Jordany Valdespin and Vinny Rotinno). I assume it’s Turner, but if Scott Hairston continues to produce as a right-handed bat off the bench, it could actually come down to Torres or Bay (and who is the better bench bat and defensive replacement). Interesting moment…
