Mets name Tom Goodwin as 1B Coach

The Mets today announced Tom Goodwin as first base coach.

Goodwin, 43, finished his fourth year with the Boston Red Sox organization last season and his third as the organization’s Minor League Outfield and Base Running Coordinator. He played 14 seasons in the majors during which he hit .268, while playing outfield for the Royals, Rangers, Rockies, Giants and Cubs. Goodwin tole 50 bases in four different seasons.

According to previous reports, before settling on Goodwin, the Mets interviewed Kevin Morgan and Jack Voigt. Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says the team might also have been interested in Doug Dascenzo.

Goodwin joins Dan Warthen (pitching coach), Dave Hudgens (hitting coach), Bob Geren (bench coach), Tim Teufel (third base coach) and Ricky Bones (bullpen coach) on the team’s coaching staff.
