Terry Collins said Ruben Tejada has some swelling in his leg, but made himself available to play today, according to MetsBlog’s Meredith Perri.
Tejada was spiked in his shin on a play at second base in the 10th inning of Monday’s 8-2 loss to the Nationals. He did not require stitches in his leg.
Tejada told Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York it was Collins’ decision to rest him tonight.
Tejada is hitting .318 with a .362 OBP, 14 doubles and 16 RBI in 211 at-bats this season.
Michael Baron: This past weekend, Collins said he would find a game to get both Tejada and David Wright some rest. With that nasty collision last night, it’s a good opportunity to rest Tejada, get some of that inflammation out of there, and freshen him up in general – their schedule does not get any easier over the next three weeks, and they do not have an off-day until August 6.
