Quote: Seaver on Alderson, rebuilding, and pitching

In a Q&A with Joe Brescia in the New York Times, Tom Seaver had the following to say about:

The importance of pitching:

“I’m a huge advocate of pitching. You have to have good pitching as the solid core, the foundation. It keeps you in every game. … Go back to ’69. We were in every game we played. That raises the level of play of everybody else on the ball club. Because you’re going to win by one run, or two runs. So that makes you hit the cutoff man, move the runner over and do the things that fundamentally make the ball club win. I’m sure that Sandy will be very strong at that.”

Getting back into baseball:

“I have no interest. I got very tired of the travel. I like being home with my wife, my three Labrador retrievers and the vineyard. But I have the same kind of stimulation that I had with baseball. I can’t wait to get to the vineyard. I’m usually in the vineyard by 7 o’clock, seven days a week.”

Callahan's injuries over the years reflect his sacrifice for the club.  This is one deal that shouldn't be done by the numbers.  Callahan's intangibles demand that the Rangers reward him for his service and loyalty.

Glen and the front office need to go up and Cally needs to go down.  Athough he is not have a banner year i think the Rangers need him in the future.  Names like Richards and Staal are the ones we should be looking at at the trade Deadline.  Losing Cally will might not hurt the stats but willl hurt the locker room.  My opinion keep Cally in New york where he belongs.

7 years fine but come down on that cap hit jeez he's similar to Dustin Brown but i'd take Brown with a cap hit of 5.8 instead of Cally at 6. I mean I love the guy and the heart but really 6 mil a year

It's good he wants to stay because it means he may be willing to take a smaller salary than 6 mil

The David Clarkson Contract really screwed this up.   Cally shouldnt get more than 5 year 25 million

Well Ryan, if you'd like to stay a Ranger, you'll need to come pretty far down from 7 years over 6 mil per.
