Olney: Mets have $, but more likely to make small trades

Tonight on air during the game, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney said the mets have some money to spend, but are more likely to make intermediate moves before the trade deadline, as opposed to making a big splash, “such as taking on a big salary or giving up a boat-load of prospects to get a veteran.”

“The Mets, even if they win this year, will continue to focus on the big picture,” Olney reported. “And, when you talk to scouts, they say, ‘Wow, in 14 months, they could have Matt Harvey in the rotation and Zack Wheeler.”

According to Olney, a scout recently told him Wheeler reminds him of a right-handed Matt Moore, and like someone who could lead a rotation in years to come.
