…from what i can gather, Carlos Beltran will likely return to Citi Field today, with a chance of playing against the Marlins either tonight or tomorrow…
The Mets were 35–33 this season with Beltran on the roster, and 27-42 since he was put on the disabled list in late June.
“I’ve been working to come back, so that’s my ultimate goal,” Beltran told reporters, through a team announcement. “I feel like I can come back and play. I’m ready.”
Beltran pointed out that he had not played baseball for two and a half months prior to his rehab assignment with Brooklyn, adding, “So, it’s going to take a little while to get my rhythm and timing back.”
…i bet both David Wright and Carlos Beltran have done a lot for their position as leaders on this team, by returning this season… it could prove to be foolish, should they make matters worse, or stunt their recoveries… but, if all goes well, especially for wright, i think it will bode well for them next season in the eyes of their teammates…
“I don’t want to sit back. I’m a ballplayer,” Beltran said last week in Brooklyn, in regards to why he is returning from the disabled list. “When you’re a ballplayer, your job is being able to rehab yourself and if that’s the last game of the season, then play the last game of the season. That’s what we’re here for; that’s what we get paid for.”
