The Mets have placed Miguel Batista in the disabled list after he strained a muscle in his lower back during yesterday’s start against the Blue Jays.
Chris Schwinden was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and will replace Batista on the 25-man roster.
Michael Baron: Terry Collins said yesterday they will be adding another position player to the bench in time for tomorrow’s game against the Pirates, and so Schwiden’s stay might be short. The Mets could theoretically cut Manny Acosta and leave Schwinden on the roster, but it remains to be seen if that actually happens. Collins said yesterday Jeremy Hefner would fill Batista’s spot in the rotation, should Batista be placed on the disabled list. So, it looks like Hefner will make his first big league start against the Padres on Thursday at Citi Field.
