Mets sign Jeff Stevens, Corey Wimberly to minors deals

According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, the Mets have signed RHP Jeff Stevens and IF/OF Corey Wimberly to minor league contracts.

Stevens, 28, appeared in four games for the Cubs in 2011, pitching to a 5.14 ERA in seven innings. He’s 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA in 37 1/3 innings over three big league seasons with the Cubs. He’s 28-23 with a 3.54 ERA in 248 games and 29 starts over seven minor league seasons.

Wimberly, 28, hit .238 with a .288 on-base percentage with 11 RBI and 15 stolen bases over 58 games for Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pirates organization in 2011. In seven minor league seasons, Wimberly has hit .297 with a .367 on-base percentage, ten home runs and 102 RBI with 199 walks and 281 strikeouts.
