Mets made an offer to Alex Gonzalez
On Thursday, the Brewers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with SS Alex Gonzalez.
Yesterday, Gonzalez told a Venezuelan sports-talk radio show he received offers from both the Giants and Mets, but decided to take the job with the Brewers so he could start.
As far as middle-infield depth goes, Gonzalez has not a stellar defender anymore and in watching him late last year, he appeared to be indifferent for the Braves which could have been a contributor to their collapse down the stretch. He’s also not one to get on base frequently and strikes out a lot. With all of that put together, there are probably better options available than Gonzalez, such as someone like Jack Wilson or Ryan Theriot.

In 149 games with the Braves in 2011, Gonzalez hit .241 with a .270 on-base percentage, 15 home runs and 46 RBI in 564 at-bats. He’s a career .247 hitter with 152 home runs and 665 RBI in hi 13-year major league career.
