Mets continue to search for bullpen help, backup catcher
The Mets “continue to hunt a righty reliever, but keep being underwhelmed by options such as Milwaukee’s Francisco Rodriguez and Houston’s Brandon Lyon,” writes Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The Mets have also shown interest in RHP Matt Capps, according to Sherman.
In addition, Sherman says the Mets have made acquiring Ramon Hernandez their priority to be their backup catcher, with Kurt Suzuki, Miguel Olivo and Kelly Shoppach serving as potential fall-back options.
However, in regards to Suzuki, Sherman says his declining numbers, the $7.1 million commitment through next season and his 2014 buyout are “hindrances” for the Mets.
