Is Ike Davis making a habit out of arguing with umpires?

Last night, Ike Davis was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning after his glove touched first-base ump Manny Gonzalez’s left arm while arguing a safe call on a pickoff play.

Davis acknowledged to reporters after the game that the contact was an accident, but nevertheless he expects to be fined by MLB.

“A baseball executive watching the game told ESPNNewYork.com that he expected Davis would be fined, but no more than $1,000,” Adam Rubin wrote to his blog. “He added that a one-game suspension is possible, but perhaps not a likelihood because the contact appeared accidental and the umpire’s call appeared to be in error.”

Matthew Cerrone: I believe this was an accident, but it doesn’t change the fact that Davis was again arguing with an umpire. And, frankly, this is really becoming a bad habit with Ike, as he’s been moaning, groaning and showing up umps since he was promoted in 2010. In talking to people around baseball, I hear often about how teams, umps and opposition pitchers view him as a bit of a crybaby. Ordinarily this doesn’t bother me. I would probably do the same. I don’t think it matters much, unless of course it leads to people throwing at him, or umps tossing him quicker than others or – worse – squeezing the strike zone on him and I worry that might soon start happening. So, I’m going to assume Terry Collins and David Wright, among others, have talked to him about this… but, if they haven’t, they might want to start.

Was at game last night, loud crazy crowd with both teams represented..

Stepan, Kreider are great building blocks for the Rangers, outside of Nash i think Klein is a MVP for this team, solid on Def and gets big goals when needed..

Good to see McDonagh get going on the offense with a little Martin St Louis sprinkled in..

23-6-1 in their last 30 games after a slow, injury-ridden start to the season. Even without Hank they are simply on fire. God that was a crazy game

Why I would never trade a chris kreider: he has another gear he turns on in big games. I don't think he left the ice the last ten mins.

@Agentsmith212 I think he's still learning and getting better on a regular basis.  Have you noticed he's starting to use his speed to SET UP goals like the one tonight.  That adds an entirely different element to his game.

Finally!!! I like the way the team showed their resolve and just kept fighting and never gave up after we were terrible first half of the game.  Gives us great confidence we can come back vs anybody and win!

That game was crazy stupid! In the end though a win is a win and the Rangers end up with 8 PTS on the 4-game road trip that I think any Rangers fan would have taken a 2-2 record before it started.

The refs were terrible tonight and should've let Martin and Glass go at it then given them penalties. Sure Glass stood up for Stempinak but he's still a ridiculous -15 or something when no other Ranger is anywhere close to that.

Talbot was shaky all night but Halak matched him and let the Rangers back in all night.

Finally Marty nets one! And Klein is Mr Clutch this year.

I think Talbot is in net Thursday and then Skapski plays against Buffalo on Friday. Talbot clearly needs a break.

@twiggy10 Yeas he does he hasn't had to handle a workload like this ever....I will mention this again for anyone who Hank is overrated.....he's not he is the King and Talbot is a good back up. One more thing I have noticed that the Rangers have been scoring in bunches in the third period lately...am I right?

@Rohail Siddiqui @TheDuke189 @twiggy10 I was having a heart attack 11 seconds in.....but hey face it Tavares is a vet and he took a miscue from Talbot and buried it...that was good play you can't take that from him.

What a great game......it was extra special to beat the Islanders tonight especially since they had us by two goals most of the evening. Now we are in second place with two games in hand....oh yeah baby things just got brighter. Rangers WIN YES YES YES!
