Buzz: Mets Interested in OF DaVanon

In Ken Rosenthal’s latest column at FoxSports.com, he goes into the Red Sox plans, now that Theo Epstein is officially back in a significant capacity. Within the article he states the Mets interest in free-agent OF Jeff DaVanon, who was released by the Angels in December. The Mets are looking at DaVanon, Rosenthal reports, to possibly platoon with OF Xavier Nady, and could signal a possible deal involving OF Victor Diaz

DaVanon hit .231 with two home-runs and 15 RBI’s in 225 AB’s last season. He also had 11 stolen bases…

…davanon’s name has been linked to everyone from the rockies to the red sox and appears to be a hot commodity as far as useful-speedy utility players goes…davanon has shown in the past, however, that he has a little more pop in his bat than say, OF Tike Redman or OF Endy Chavez, whom the Mets have already signed this off-season

frankly, unless diaz is dealt for another reliable reliever or part of a deal for a quality starting pitcher that doesn’t include OF Lastings Milledge, i’d just rather stay put, thank you…

Rosenthal also re-iterates the Mets interest in Devil Rays SS/2B Julio Lugo

…yes, another name which will just not go away…
