This morning at Citi Field, Sandy Alderson said, for now, he perceives that the Mets are still ‘buyers’ as the July 31 trade deadline approaches.
With that said, Alderson indicated the next week will be a big indicator as to what they ultimately do at the trade deadline, saying:
[jbox]“It’s not a question of what we see on the field to make us buyers. It’s what we see on the field that causes us not to be buyers. The presumption is that we are buyers. And, it has been. But, realistically, the next seven, eight, ten games become important for us.”[/jbox]
Coming into play today, the Mets were seven games behind the Nationals for first place in the National League East and 4 1/2 games behind the Braves for the second Wild Card.
