Today at Tradition Field, Zack Wheeler threw a live batting practice session to minor leaguers.
According to the team’s beat reporters on Twitter, Wheeler threw 27 pitches, and his velocity was between 93 and 95 mph.
Wheeler later told reporters his oblique felt fine, and he hoped to pitch in a game soon.
It was the first time Wheeler has faced hitters since February 23 – he pulled his oblique muscle before his second scheduled start against the Cardinals last week.
Wheeler was re-assigned to minor league camp this morning.
Michael Baron, ContributorObviously, it will be worth watching how his strained oblique responds after this outing. Based on how hard he was throwing, it doesn’t seem as though he held back during this throwing session, and that is very good news.
