Zack Wheeler believes Mets will spend money, doesn’t want to be traded

Zack Wheeler believes the Mets will spend money on next year’s roster, a team he hopes to still be part of, he told columnist Kevin Kernan (NY Post, Aug. 28).

“How could you not spend money?” Wheeler said to Kernan. “You’re in New York. I know the Wilpons. I’ve been around them awhile now. I know they want to win. It’s just a matter of putting the right pieces together, formulating it all and making a winner.’’

According to New York reporter Andy Martino’s sources, in return for a player like Cubs SS Starlin Castro, while the Mets might consider trading Wheeler and Wilmer Flores, the Cubs would again want more, such as Noah Syndergaard or Jacob deGrom.

“I don’t want to be traded,” Wheeler told Kernan. “We’re only going to get better when the guys we got here get more experience and spend a little bit of money, making trades, get some better bats and stuff. … I was part of the rebuilding process and I want to see it through.’’

He wants to stay and we want pitchers like him that make the foundation to win it all. Stay the course.

Love Wheeler and want him to stay with the Mets as well as most everyone else on the current team. They need to spend money and get a real good left fielder.

Awww, he's sweet. I used to fall for that bit every year, too. Now I know better.

Harvey, Wheeler, Degrom and Syndegard should be the future. Nobody else...

If the mets trade him, they will be cursed forever. Look at the Kazmir trade, were still being haunted by that. Thank you steve phillips.

Lol these sports writers are really stupid.  Wheeler, Flores, and Syndergaard for Castro?  Really?  Do these writers realize that there are four free agent shortstops available, all of them better than Castro?  That will likely cost just a second round pick.  Also, despite Castro having a good year this year, he is coming off a 2013 season where he was worth a grand total of 0 WAR.

Wright will never be the player he was in 2006 ever again. That's a bad contract, but Granderson's is just as awful.

LOL when they spend money, that's a good one.

Wheeler should only be mentioned in a trade for Trout or Puig nobody else, Syndergaad could be packaged for Castro but no more than one other player I guess the Cubs will wind up with positional players with Lesser pitching!

Bad sign. All players I liked who said they wanted to stay with the Mets recently got traded short after. Ike, R.A. , Reyes ... all gone and Wheeler will be next. But maybe he'll end up Cy Young winner next year, whereever he may go

Um trade Wheeler and Syndergaard for a shortstop. I don't think so! The Mets would be nuts to do that.

The only player I trade wheeler for,is Stanton...that's it!

Wheeler has lived up to the hype and has pitched more games than even Harvey. Zach is clearly a top of the rotation starter and is only getting better.

Ace material, Ace stuff and is developing an Ace mentality..

I would puke if we traded Wheeler for Castro, and people claim he'll cost more than that? Uh no thanks.

Mets are willing to spend money not throw it away they've learned from past mistakes like Beltran, Johan, n whoever else u wanna put on that list so they're willing to like a Stanton but let's see in the off season

I know we're always clamoring for a trade, sometimes just for the sake of a trade. However, I think the Mets would be making a big mistake trading any of our top pitching.

Young, talented arms don't grow on trees and in my opinion Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, and deGrom should be untouchables. Each one is a very different pitcher from the other.

They would be under team control, cheaper than FA, and dare I say it..if the Mets become relevant again maybe even give home town discounts when the time came. This is a good problem to have!

And yes I know we need offensive help, go a different route by trading Niese and Gee along with other prospects...or go after FA.

We have about the same chance of getting Stanton as we do signing Ted Williams or Roberto Clemente and them actually playing, let alone breathing. Miami will be a playoff contender next season. They aren't trading Stanton.

I actually would consider trading Syndergaard. Remember that it cost us AJ Burnett to get Delgado. I would trade Sybdergaard because we don't know what he is. We know what Wheeler and Degrom are. I would also keep Niese because we don't have any other lefties that are anywhere near ready. You fill 5 with Gee, Colon or Montero and trade the other two.

Exactly we don't know what he is, so why trade him. We know he's projected to be a top of the rotation guy...with Wheeler and deGrom maturing it's a great problem to have once Harvey gets back. I like Niese but he's to inconsistent...I do hope it's injuries and that he isn't just losing it.

Harvey

Wheeler

Syndergaard

Niese

deGrom

That is about as scary a rotation as you can throw out there..

Btw, we got Al Leiter from the Marlins. We traded Mike Jacobs for Delgado
