According to Sanspo, due to the player’s request, the Nippon Ham Fighters are likely to post Japanese RHP Yu Darvish this off-season.
The Rangers, Yankees, Mets, and Braves are among the eight teams to show interest in Darvish, according to the report.
I’ve been told by people in baseball to expect teams to pay a bit more than what the Yankees paid to negotiate with Kei Igawa, which would be around $25 million or so, after which Darvish will likely command a five-year deal.
The Mets have had their Pacific Rim scouting team check out Darvish on multiple occasions, though I’m not sure that indicates a willingness to spend more than $25 million to sign him.
