The Yankees are not currently interested in free-agent SS Stephen Drew, despite Derek Jeter saying he’ll retire after 2014 (Marchand, Feb. 14).
Drew and his agent, Scott Boras, have said he would be able to play multiple positions, specifically second and third base, in an attempt to raise his value.
In regards to Drew, Boras has reportedly been contact with at least the Yankees, Mets, Twins, Red Sox and Astros.
The Red Sox have limited interest, and do not want to give him a long-term deal, according to reports. Sandy Alderson seems to hold a similar view, though Drew clearly fits in better with the Mets, who need a starting shortstop.
