Johan Santana 5 (Baron)

Colon’s asking price going up, Yankees like Johan

The Mets are looking to sign a starting pitcher to a short-term deal, and they reportedly have interest in Bartolo Colon and Johan Santana, among others…

1:45 pm: Colon’s asking price keeps going up, he now wants a two-year deal (Rosenthal, Dec. 11) worth around $20 million (Gammons on MLB Network).

10:14 am: The Yankees are interested in Santana, but he would have to shave his facial hair to join their organization (Marchand, Dec. 11).

9:45 am: The Mets are considering Colon, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Bruce Chen and John Lannan (Heyman, Dec. 10), and they have talked to the agents for Freddy Garcia (Puma, Dec. 10), Paul Maholm (Puma, Dec. 10) and old friend Johan Santana (Lennon, Dec. 10).

Sandy Alderson said this week that he is looking to add a starting pitcher, but he’s reluctant to give a multi-year deal.

I'm starting to think the Yankee facial hair policy is designed to save the clubhouse staff money on Just For Men Beard and Moustache.

Let's give the guy who threw our first No-hitter* another chance!! That would be awesome to see him pitch again for us.

You know, most people new to baseball would think of this as some sort of joke, but really this is true lol.

"I'm willing to pay you 15 million to throw a baseball, you just have to shave your beard."

Johan "Yea, I don't think that's gonna happen."

Hey guys the former A's & St Louis pitcher Mark Mulder is making a comeback. He should be cheap. Go get him Sandy

Why arent the mets interested in Jair Jurrjens??

it looks like arroyo is going to re-sign with the reds....so mets should jump on a on eyear coln deal at 10 - 12M.

I am not sure about two years with a 41 y/o pitcher...

Apparently the Yankees are not stopping at requiring players to shave, they're now requiring anal bleaching!  They're all about class over there!

What about Jason Hammel? I havent heard anything connecting him to the Mets but I have heard he is open to a 1 year deal. He could be a good get coming from the AL

After the season he had and considering teams other options, why shouldn't Colon as for 2 years?

Mark Mulder is coming out of retirement so look for him to be considered as well.

Bring in Johan Dice-K and Harang with Thor and whoever we don't trade from the minors waiting in the wings which makes Niese a chip...

starting pitcher target for a 1 year deal should still be Jason Marquis.  I would have this as my top pick and would have a deal done. He can still fill out a back end roll nicely  and would come back to his home town.  I would give him 1 year 3M (same his last two teams paid him) and I am sure he would come.  I doubt he wold get more.

Just depressing - we have so many needs and between the lack of activity, and the lack of expected activity it's like being repeatedly gut punched.

Johan, better give us a discount!

We cannot just rely on one lefty starter...

Is Alderson gonna be the GM in 5 or so years when Trout is available. And to be honest it was more of a joke than anything else

I know this is going to sound dumb, but this is one of the many reasons I can never root for the Yankees. They're so boring even when they win.

Yankees are great and all but this shaving crap is like they cant accept the fact that we are not in the 1920's anymore.

if the Yanks pay him guarantee money, he'll shave....oh and also throw 2 no hitters and hit a grad slam at Citi in an inter league game.

Have you seen those beef jerky commercials where the losers mess with Sasquatch?  That's the equivalent of Cerrone mocking the Yankees.  Johan would probably shave his pubes for a chance to pitch in the Bronx.

That's funny Matthew but they've already got Beltran Johan would be the complete kick in the rear. Either way Johan shouldn't change himself on a personal level just to perform for a team that honestely gives up on PEOPLE that have done A LOT for their organization and not see them as tools to grind their gears. Johan, do the right thing, Please.

Maybe he can use the facial hair as leverage for a big league deal.  Twice this offseason facial hair is an issue, how stupid.

They're "interested" in a lot of players.  They're just not doing much about it apparently.

Surprising that they haven't snagged someone like Gillette as a main sponsor.

@frasco Handlebar mustaches were all the rage in the Roaring 20's.  The Yankees fancy themselves an elite fighting force, like the Marines or Army Rangers.  The Mets on the other hand, look like something out of a Scooby Doo episode.

@chasesimms But Jair Jurrjens is probably the youngest pitcher if he was in the list above and I bet he would take a one year deal in order to raise his value for next year

Yeah.  Don Zimmer is thrilled.  In 99' he pushed hard for this rule.

Andrew!  My favorite contributor!  Help me out.  What's the deal with this new comment format?  I'm not seeing the advantages over the old one. I'm a bit distressed over it.   My panties are not in a bunch over it, but nonetheless...
