Wright drops out of 3B All-Star vote lead

David Wright is no longer the top vote-getter among National League third basemen for this year’s All-Star game, MLB announced Monday.

Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez has overtook the top spot this past week, leading Wright by roughly 20,000 votes.

Wright took the lead at third base two weeks ago over Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado.

Pride of toms river Todd Frazier. The epicenter of east coast baseball is in the shore conference in south jersey.

God do I hate this fan voting thing. I wish I could ignore all posts about AS voting.

Until MLB decides to make it a legit AS game, by having experts pick the players (maybe allow fans to vote for the last man on the roster only), the game is a silly exhibition that doesn't represent the best talent in the game.

Fan bases are of varied sizes, and fans are biased towards their own players. People can vote many times. Many fans aren't knowledgeable enough to vote ... many are children.

I can't take it seriously if MLB doesn't take it seriously.

Good. David needs the rest. It would help his head to hang out with his bride.

GOOD, he doesn't deserve to be there! Murphy on the other hand....

Can someone tell me how the best hitting second baseman in the national league isn't even in the top 5 in voting? How do people not know about Daniel Murphy?

Wright is no All Star. The system of voting for All Stars is nothing but a popularity contest, usually won by a player who plays in a city with a much higher population and, therefore, fan base. It is a numbers game. When they have real All Star games, I will watch. I love David Wright. He is a credit to baseball. But he should be embarrassed to go to any All Star game.

As a Mets fan, I hate to say it, but there really shouldn't be any Met on the All-Star team. I think the whole team representative requirement is a joke.

Wright is having a real down season and really doesn't deserve to start over Matt Carpenter, even though he leads him in the voting.

He's been called up for Tuesdays game.Who went down?

If he's what the fans want then he starts. This isn't about merit or performance. It's a popularity contest for the fans.

no way he an all star this year

while I do not think Wright has been the best 3B to date this year it is a little odd he drops out of the lead after he has his first post slump week and started hitting again

Honestly Wright isn't having an All-Star year, and the Mets aren't drawing the crowds that the first place Brewers are, so I can't get too excited about this.

I love how many people call themselves fans but are really just haters. Im sure most cant get off the couch or weren't  good enough to make it past little league. Wright is a class act and plays hard everyday even with injuries. To say he doesn't deserve it when he plays on a crap team in a huge ball park with nobody getting on or behind him to see good pitches. He is only hitting 15 points lower then Ramirez and that's after a huge slump he has 4 less homeruns but the same OBP and more rbi's oh and one other thing he is on my team so that might be the most important point.

So what. Who cares

To be honest, I'm glad. I'm really getting tired of Mets fans using the excuse that there is no protection for him. He's just been a completely different player since 2008.

Wright hasn't earned it. That said; I voted for him several times as well as Murphy.

Arenado looked to be the logical choice for a while. I'm curious to see what that kid will do in his prime. I'm a fan-boy lol

Please, since when does it go to who deserves it? Sandoval deserved it when the game was in San Fran? Start being fans and vote for your captain people. Jeter went plenty of times when others deserved it more bc his fans were thankful for everything he did for them. Show David the same respect and get him there as a starter. He's earned it in his time as a Met.

Doesn't matter either way, Wright and possibly Murph will reach as back ups from the Players/Coaches votes

@hankypanky  I agree he needs the rest, although not sure he'd get it from being with his wife for 4-5 days straight!

@Brandon Lee

The All Star game and voting process is far from perfect, but it is what it is. I'd LOVE to see Murphy make it as a Met before he is shipped out so I'm voting as many times as I can for him and I'll put my vote in for the Captain as well. Yes, he's having a down year but its not like he's batting .200 or on pace to have 200+ strike outs. His power is down and he had a period of two weeks that was hideous, but let's remember he missed 50 games last year. If he stays healthy (oh GOD PLEASE, PLEASE), there's no reason why he can't still hit or exceed his totals from last year.

Like it or not, someone from the team will be selected so you might as well vote and try to have some say. I can't believe Murphy dropped out of the Top 5. Mets fans just don't care.

Cheryl Ann
Cheryl Ann

@Brandon Lee Because Mets fans don't care much about anything anymore. They have been drained of all energy and enthusiasm. If people don't start voting for Murphy and get him back in the Top 5, he'll never be picked as an alternate.

Wright is close enough in statistical categories (Top 10 in NL in hits, Top 3 in NL 3rd baseman in RBI,  Top 3 in NL for doubles, Top 5 in NL against left handed pitching) to make it as an alternate at third. Alternates are rarely chosen by the manager if they're not at least in the Top 5 of the fan vote.

Having said that, I do think though that Matheny might select Frazier as an alternate since they're playing in an AL park and can use the DH.

@patelj27b I thought Murph should at least be in the conversation.  Yes, he is a barely tolerable defender but is near top hit getters in league. I want to see offense in the ASG.

@Ralph Carlson Jr Add to that that Todd Frazier who I believe is the most deserving and definitely belongs in the discussion is nowhere the top of vote getters for NL third basemen.

@sandybgone Murphy moved to 3rd, Flores moved to 2nd and Duda still at 1B....Mets fans would hang Sandy in effigy in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda

Olerud42

@Daniel Burnard But people want to look at this objectively and not just vote for guys that are on their team. And objectively speaking, there is no way that David Wright is more deserving of an all-star start than Matt Carpenter based on the data since last year's all-star game.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@sandybgone Well, more the problem is Citi Field. David Wrights power to Right Center has turned into doubles or fly outs. When they built Citi, they did not have David Wright in mind, which baffles me why they would resign him, but not move the fences in.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@sandybgone Let haters hate.  That's what they do.  Wright signed a big contract and unless he hits .340/45/155 every year no one is ever going to think he's worth it.  Might not be worth the breath arguing the point.  But i will say this.  IMO, no Mets position player deserves to be a starting AS this year.  So the idea that Wright has lost the vote lead, is wasted on me.

Cheryl Ann
Cheryl Ann

Well said. Even this year, he still in top 5 of many categories not only among NL third basemen but all MLB third basemen.

Top 10 in NL in hits. Second among NL third basemen in doubles. Second among NL third basemen in RBI even though he only has 6HR. Frazier has 44 RBI to Wright's 39 but he has 18 HR. Wright has more hits and RBI than Longoria.

Mets fans need to have more pride. Ramirez?? Really? Get behind the Team whatever you think of the owners...vote for Murph while you're at it, before too long he'll be on another team.

supert

@sandybgone "20-25 home runs"?  He has 6 HRs thus far with over 300 ABs.  Have you looked at Wright's statistics?

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@Cheryl Ann Dont be wronged though, Ramirez is a really good 3B and drives in a lot of runs for the Brewers. he's a good player, but If I had to guess, Wright will still be on the team anyways whether through fan vote or manager/players selection

Daniel Burnard
Daniel Burnard

@Cheryl Ann  Great points as always Cheryl. Most of these clowns don't get it. Its not 1995 anymore where Brady Anderson is hitting 50 HRs.

Olerud42

@DarrolRayFanClub @sandybgone I don't agree with that at all.  Wright's dropped over .100 points below his career slugging percentage. That's pretty significant. Power matters.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@citifield  No, don't misunderstand.  I mean, why would YOU specifically post this....well to be frank, nonsense?  Is Cespedes on the block that no one's heard about?  Like, in what parallel universe is this even REMOTELY an option?  The A's are in 1st place and he's a major reason why.  So how exactly COULD the Mets "get yoenis cespedes"?  Just seems like a worthless post

Dana Smith

@sandybgone @citifield He missed a lot of time with the stress fracture in his back. 2009 was the headshot, he missed the minimum I believe.
