David Wright specifically requested that he earn the bulk of his money in the middle of this new contract, so the team has more money to spend now, and so he’s not a financial burden at the end of his career, WFAN’s Ed Coleman told SNY this morning.
Matthew Cerrone, MetsBlog.com:
Thats awesome! Seriously. Wright idolizes Cal Ripken, not just for how he played the game, but because he played his whole career with one team. This was one of Wright’s goals from the start of these negotiations, and he actually helps that happen by limiting the chance of being way overpaid in years when he’ll probably be less productive.
