Winter League Round-Up: Flores and Valdespin are hitting in the Caribbean

The Caribbean Winter League got underway earlier this week. Here is a quick round-up of Mets’ player performances so far this off-season:

Wilmer Flores (.300, 18 HR, 75 RBI with St. Lucie and Binghamton in 2012): Flores is off to a good start for Los Bravos de Margarita in Venezuela, hitting .280 with a double and a home run over his first seven games. He appeared as a pinch hitter last night but went 0-for-1, ending his six-game hitting streak to open the season.

Jordany Valdespin (.241, 8 HR, 26 RBI with the Mets in 2012): Valdespin has appeared in four games for Los Tigres de Licey so far and is off to a strong start. He’s hit in all four games, scored five runs, and walked four times with only one strikeout, hitting at a .417 clip. He went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored last night while playing in right field.

Juan Lagares (.283, 4 HR, 48 RBI with Binghamton in 2012): Lagares has appeared in just two games so far for Las Aguilas Cibaenas, driving in a run in two plate appearances.
