Wilpon and Alderson still looking to make additions

Last night at David Wright’s charity event in Virginia, Sandy Alderson and Jeff Wilpon each said the Mets are not done trying to improve the roster for next season.

“All remaining free agents are on our radar,” Alderson answered, when asked specifically about free-agent SS Stephen Drew (Newsday, Jan. 25).

Wilpon said he approves of Alderson’s approach this winter and believes the team can make a couple more moves before the end of the off-season.

As Mets fans we shouldn't get out hopes up too high about anymore additions the team is going to make. Lets face it, anything from here is going to be a yard sale deal. There are still allot of good players on the market but the Mets are too cheap to pull the trigger. We are looking at our sixth straight losing season and they are more interested in promoting the summer concert series than putting a winning team out on the field.

These guys look like their trying out for the Wiggles.

Does anyone know is Nelson Cruz can play first? There seems to be no demand for him and the Mets might be able to steal him on a short term deal. He would be a nice right-handed power bat for the lower end of the order. Mets could them flip Ike for a relief pitcher.

There are really no great first baseman in next year's free agency either. I would rather see them go after him then Drew. Next year's SS free agent class is loaded with talent.

Reality is they won't win without Harvey healthy so rebuild for next yr. I see no reason why Drew can't be in that plan. If they like another ss next yr then move Drew to second ir deal him or deal Murphy

The payroll is sitting at a projected 87 million per cots baseball contracts. The Wilpons got 25 million in revenue sharing from the MLB TV deal. There fore they are really looking at spending 62 million this year based on last years revenue numbers. With this they talk about penciling in Tejada at short and playing Duda some in the outfield.

Now they are considered long shots for Rodney and only monitoring Drew's situation on the free agent list. We need an experienced reliever who can close if Parnell implodes or proves himself physically unable to handle it coming off injury. This and Tejada even with a comeback year is not as good as Drew who they can seemingly get on a short term two year deal.

I haven't renewed my partial season plan and don't intend to. I'll pick up a few games on stub hub for less than face when we're out of it by the All Star break again.

Enough talk, start making things happen. This franchise can be torture on a fan. If they have all the remaining free agents on their radar I don't expect just one minor signing I expect a few more legit/proven/major league talented players to be signed before spring training begins... can we please be a "real" NY team and stop with the BS.

The Steinbrenner boys just punked the Wilpon lad this week.

I like the Mets pitching and future pitching more than the skankees, but for Wilpon watching Hank and Georgie Jr across town drop 500 million on toys has gotta hurt.

Wow. Talk about shooting fish in a barrel. You would think they would know better than post a photo of Wilpon's son. Unlike many of the bloggers I don't hate him. He's in the wrong place at the wrong time. He's sitting on a money machine and he knows it. Nothing we can do about it except not show up at the games. Who knows? Maybe the team will be entertaining with the new additions.

Let's see..maybe they can trade Anthony Recker for Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw. This is what I expect from Sandy and the boy genius, a bonified member of the lucky sperm club.

This is the same rheoric they have been giving us for four years.  The real addition that they want to make is depositing the $25 million check they will be getting from MLB.

This team is full of crap. How are you going to say this but then the next post says tejada is penciled in as the ss. Don't believe the hype

They've been slow playing their hand all winter, and they've done a great job. Like any good poker player, you don't tip your hand and you don't get baited by your competition into mistakes. Sandy has had one of the best off seasons of any GM, and he's not done yet. Keep up the good work. In Sandy we trust!

How about some relief pitching?? Decent relief pitching!

@crimsondad I agree with you.  There is no reason to spend for the sake of spending, but there are a few FA out there that would improve our team.  Drew and Morales are both better options than the current in-house crew.  Duda in the outfield is ridiculous.  I'm not trying to rip on him but, he just isn't an outfielder.  He can't read the ball of the bat and he's very slow.  If ownership can't or won't spend they should just admit it.  All this posturing is silly and getting really old.

MLB forced Frank McCourt to sell the LAD b/c of his financial mismanagement and it is outrageous that they haven't done the same to the Wilpons.

Now we are talking. 2014 was supposed to be the turning point. What happened? Harvey? Injury can happen any time. Even more a reason to add depth. Don't renew. We should all boycott till we see real signs of ownership investing in team.

@hankypankyI don't hate him either; although it seems it's just because i never met him. I do think he'd spend cash if he could; his dad and uncle own the team and set the budget.  There's nothing Jeff can do.

@sickntired Exactly.  And to be honest I truly believe Jeff knows very little about the game, evaluating players, and managing or owning a team.  He probably couldn't handle Strat-O-Matic baseball.

@Robert Hess @sickntired Jeff could care less about this team other than he took over daddy's business and it's his piggy bank! He just wants to turn as much profit as he can from the team and could care less about winning.

sickntired

Why would Jeff know anything about baseball? If I'm a doctor does that make my son know anything about doing heart surgery?!??? Let's face it, this is total BS. Not only is he pocketing Mets revenue but they are using it to pay for their other debts. Well they're not getting any from me and hopefully others will follow as well. I love the mets. My family loves them. I was lucky to see th win 2 WS but doubt I will see them win another and feel bad for younger generation that has seen nothing but losing. Sell the team Jeff and do us all a favor!!

qualcomm

@fedupfan13  Let's not put the anti-Semite on a pedestal.  He might have brought us Piazza, but he also started this mess for us by letting Fred gradually get enough power to take the team.  He gave us four years in the 80's and another couple in the late 90's, but otherwise he was disengaged and ultimately doomed the franchise for decades by handing it to Fred Wilpon to use as an executive toy.  He walked away with a ton of money, no accountability and the fan base thanking him for Piazza.
