According to multiple reports, OF Willie Harris will sign a minor league deal with the Mets, and will receive an invite to Spring Training.
The 32 year old Harris has spent the last three seasons with the Nationals as a part time outfielder, and in ten big league seasons with the Orioles, White Sox, Red Sox, Braves and Nationals, he’s hit .239 with a .327 on base percentage, with 37 home runs and 187 RBI.
Over the past few seasons, especially recently, Harris has made several phenomenal defensive plays at the expense of the Mets, costing them runs and in a lot of cases, wins.
Well, if you can’t beat him, join with him I guess. At least Harris can’t kill the Mets with that glove, as long as they keep him anyway.
Harris is probably a strong candidate to win the fourth outfielder spot with the Mets. He doesn’t hit very much, but he has good speed and has obviously proven to be a very good defensive outfielder.
