Lucas Duda 5 Baron)

Ike may play Thursday, Duda slightly behind him

Ike Davis (calf) will hopefully play in a Grapefruit League Thursday, with Lucas Duda (hamstring) not far behind, Sandy Alderson told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday.

4:05 pm: Duda and Davis got at bats as the DH in a minor league game. Again, they didn’t run the bases, but did running before and after the game.

12:05 pm: Duda has seven at bats in Grapefruit League play, Davis has three, and there are less than two weeks until Opening Day.

The team’s management had said Davis and Duda would compete this spring for the team’s starting first baseman. However, Davis (calf) and Duda (hamstring) have not played in a Grapefruit League since the first week of March.

“I’m not worried about them playing first base,” Terry Collins said Monday (Star-Ledger, Mar. 18). “The issue has been, we gotta decide who the main guy is that we gotta run out there. … We’re running out of days.”

In the last week, both players have been getting at bats in minor league games, but are still not allowed to run the bases.

I'm not sure I understand what the long term "plan" is at SS or 1B.

Can we let Andrew Brown play first base? I mean anyone can play first these days. He's looked pretty good man. We've got nothing to lose. Put Flores over there too. Throw Murph in a couple times a month too. Just use it like the DH or something.

Every question that is being posed, will be answered by the end of the season except for 1...
The roster will take shape within the next week as the regulars get more playing time. Just go to sleep, and wake up, let them play another game, see who plays. I love it all. I dont even care if my team sucks. The drama is enough to keep me hooked. This is New York after all, and I'd say we're better off than the Knicks...

I would LOVE to see Davis and Duda both playing now.  For a different team.  In a uniform other than a Mets uniform.   In a different city. But still in the NL east.  So Mets pitching can benefit from the easy out.

Wait, wasn't Ike slightly behind last week?

With all the question-marks surrounding first base this past year, why didn't the FO take a serious look at a tall rangy kid who is quick and swings a nice bat? I'm speaking of Flores, but it's too late now.

I really wish that these two didn't get injuries. It really halted any progress that was being made.

same old Mets...  such much indecision !  I wish they would just do SOMETHING

Wilmer Flores at First. He needs a postion, he can hit and the Mets need a first baseman.

Neither will be ready to start the season. If they're not running the bases by this point, how will they be ready to start the season? DL, release,  and/or AAA.

They should give the job to Eric Campbell. He's had a strong spring and has performed well in triple a. Give a new person a chance. He doesn't have any of the negative crap that Ike and Lucas carry with them from constantly underachieving.

They both have options for this year to be sent down and brought up. Try one and if not sent that down and bring the other up....Personally send both down!!!! Shake them up. Start Duda and force Ike to show something! Duda isn't special either but then it will be easier to demote him..

Duda has options, so send him down to AAA and let Ike start the season at 1B and see how it goes.

I think Dan Murphy is the right 1B-man

If neither Davis and Duda can't start by opening day...then put Murphy at 1B and Eric Young at 2B (as mentioned in another clip). We will get a glimpse on how well E. Young plays 2B in today's game. . .Lets Go Mets!

no first baseman. no shortstop. a second baseman who should be a DH. no bullpen. very little power. their best defensive outfielder won't play much. their best pitcher is on the DL. the owners won't sell the team, and the gm is a yes man. and i'm a jet fan as well.

We all know how this is gonna wind-up:  Mets will use injuries to David and Duda as an excuse to get them 'seasoning' at Las Vegas. Satin and Murphy will platoon at 1B with Murph starting there against LHP.

With a 195. Avg over the last 2 years who needs practice right Ike? This is unreal. It's almost funny.

@chasesimms Ironically enough, thats when someone just like those guys ends up having a .450 lifetime BA against Mets pitching or something.

@chasesimms I would generally agree with you, but they are the best options we have. Having Flores at SS +Satin/Ike/Duda at 1B is better than Flores at 1B and Tejada at SS. Same thing with putting EY at 1B and Murph at 1B. We don't like it, but we aren't acquiring anything else so we have to live with it for at least the first 2-3 months of this season.

The will do something...sign someone else's retread who gets cut at the end of spring training. You know the Met's motto, "If they're' not good enough for you, then they must be a good fit for us."

@openmind6  if they were to bring in a legit SS, I wouldn't mind this, just to get his bat in there while things at 1B are figured out...but if this forces Tejada into the lineup, no thanks.

@Dr. James DiTuna

TC was talking about Montero starting season in bullpen literally two days before they optioned him.  It seems like he has absolutely no involvement or even knowledge of team's personnel plans.

@vern

don't like getting EY into lineup over Duda/Satin ... not that the platoon is great, but I don't see EY providing more value than 25 combined HRs, 90 +/- combined RBI.  I don't get the EY fascination.

wingo43

@vern  Murphy's numbers work at 2B, not at !B.

@vern If Dan Murphy was the right 1B-man, he'd still be playing there.  The fact that they gave up on him at first says everything you need to know about his ability to man that position.

@Kenneth Meltsner

No way is this ownership sending 5.5M in salary to AAA.  I think Ike and his 3.5M is going to get cut, and Duda is LH half of 1B platoon.

@adam Ike's been bad, but not quite that bad. Even last year he managed to hit a "robust" .205.

Vin Santiago

@Gland1  They have spent the last three months kicking the tires on Drew, trading for a short stop, figuring out the first base position which at this point looks like its probably between Ike and Satin because Duda can't get healthy quick enough.  Luckily for Chris Young and the Metties as a whole he has had a totally serviceable spring otherwise this team would then be kicking the tires on what the outfield will look like too.  I think thats what he's talking about.

Cleon_21
Cleon_21

@Vin Santiago @Gland1  Exactly......heard about Drew for months... 1b situation is same as February, granted both Ike n Duda hurt.. but do us Met fans want to see Ike and Tejeda in opening day lineup ?
