Ike Davis (calf) will hopefully play in a Grapefruit League Thursday, with Lucas Duda (hamstring) not far behind, Sandy Alderson told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday.
4:05 pm: Duda and Davis got at bats as the DH in a minor league game. Again, they didn’t run the bases, but did running before and after the game.
12:05 pm: Duda has seven at bats in Grapefruit League play, Davis has three, and there are less than two weeks until Opening Day.
The team’s management had said Davis and Duda would compete this spring for the team’s starting first baseman. However, Davis (calf) and Duda (hamstring) have not played in a Grapefruit League since the first week of March.
“I’m not worried about them playing first base,” Terry Collins said Monday (Star-Ledger, Mar. 18). “The issue has been, we gotta decide who the main guy is that we gotta run out there. … We’re running out of days.”
In the last week, both players have been getting at bats in minor league games, but are still not allowed to run the bases.
