Zack Wheeler thinks C Travis d’Arnaud is “great behind the plate,” and he’s going to “catch fire and take off,” in 2014, he told SNY’s Mets Hot Stove, presented by Citi.
“When he came up, people doubted his behind-the-plate skills, but I think he was awesome,” Wheeler said of d’Arnaud. “I love throwing to him. He receives the ball tremendously well, he can make a border-line ball look like a strike. I think he’s been so concentrated on calling the game, he got caught up and maybe only had a few good at bats. I think next year he’s going to catch fire and take off.”
D’Arnaud struggled at the plate in 2013, hitting just .202 with a .286 OBP, 4 extra base hits and 5 RBI in 112 plate appearances.
