Zack Wheeler, Wilmer Flores and Rafael Montero were among the Top 20 Prospects in Triple-A’s Pacific Coast League this past season, according to a list published by Baseball America.
Wheeler checked in as the league’s top pitching prospect, ahead of Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez, both of whom are dominating for the Cardinals in the post-season this October.

The more hype for Montero the better, because I feel he’s the guy the Mets would prefer to trade in an effort to acquire a power hitter this winter. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had MLB insiders tell me expectations for Noah Syndergaard are that he can be a better pitcher than Wheeler. If this ends up being true, and the Mets keep Wheeler and Matt Harvey returns to form, they could one day have a pretty powerful rotation.
The jury is still out on Montero’s place on a 25-man roster, which is probably why he is more expendable, but also less valuable.
