Wheeler and Harvey are ‘untouchables.’

Mets pitching prospects Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler are considered “untouchables,” a club source recently told the New York Post.

Good. The Giants have demonstrated the importance of young, reliable starting pitching, while winning two rings and totally dismantling and rebuilding their lineup in three seasons. This is not to say offense isn’t important. It is. However, it points out how much easier it is to rebuild your lineup, while keeping your best, youngest pitching in house. This is why I’m nervous about Jon Niese being shopped. I understand the idea, and know it’s necessary if the goal is to trade for a bat. However, I’d MUCH prefer the Mets find reliable role-players, live with rookies and sign free agents, while keeping every arm they have.
