How are we gonna get rid of Colon?  What a waste of 20 million!  Come to think of it signing Grandy for 4 years seems awfully bad also.

Wheeler can go a long way to earning his reputation as a big part of this rotation.  He really needs to step up in a big spot.  I am more inclined to think he is intimidated by the right field porch, pitching agains the Yankees and he gets rocked tonight.  He talked about how he was ready to step in as a top of the rotation guy in spring training, but has yet to show he is even close.  Can hardly get out of the 6th inning, and is totally scared to pitch inside.  I still think he may be the best trade chip when all is sand and done with the young guys.  If they can convince some team he is worth a young big time bat, I am all for trading him.

After seeing do many young pitchers having Tommy John Surgery maybe the Mets should just make Montero, Wheeler, and Syndergaard have it now. deGrom has already had his.

With a win today, the Mets will have the same record as the Yankees, despite their trillion dollar payroll.

I've been vocal in my opinion that lagares needs to be the starting CF every day, with EYJ as the 4th outfielder and back-up 2B, getting his starts by spelling all 4 position players, and more ABs coming in late as a PH or runner.  but I have to say...he really makes things happen with this offense.  It seems he's always in the middle of a rally.  how are his numbers so bad?

I still feel lagares will be a great everyday all around CF...but how do you sit EYJ right now?

Those in my parish, many of whom are Yankee fans, had promised me that the Yankees would sweep the Mets this week.  Thank God that will not be the case.  And now if the Mets can at least split the series, I will expect several Yankee fans to not show up for church this Sunday.

My wife is pregnant, so I'm splurging for Tommy John surgery for the kid while he/she is still in the womb.

Could be .500 again tonight and 3 or less back. New life in the rotation and pen. Lets keep the momentum going!

Montero starts tomorrow. So who's gone to make room for him on the roster??

here is the lineup I expect to see tonight against the LH:

E young dh

murphy 2b

wright 3b

granderson rf

c young lf

Campbell 1b

lagares cf

flores ss

d'arnaud c

I used to think that d'Arnaud was merely mediocre in his defense. After watching the game last night, I realized he was reasonably bad. Sorry, Recker is head and shoulders above him when it comes to throwing to second or simply covering the plate. Very disappointing.

I wish we played those Bronx Bums all the time. The new Yankee Stadium should be called "Citi Field North". Actually, nevermind. It's too ugly of a place for that name.

Great article by Klapisch this morning. Here's hoping that Katz sells out and the Wilpons are forced to sell as well!

We need another move:  d'ArNOT down, Pawlecki up

Front office is starting to slightly grow some guts. Loving these moves not caring about the super 2 deadline. Important to show the fanbase they care about winning. Still a LONG way to go but it is a start.

@hashburry  talk about knee jerk reactions.  this kid has a great arm but needs time to develop.  you don't trade guys like that you keep them and develop them.

mets should know better than to trade a great arm for an immediate fix.  does  Nolan Ryan ring a bell?

@Kevin VanTassell  Haha had the same though. All the youngsters pick a year or two, have tommy john, and make their arms indestructibly strong....Mine as well get it out of the way.

@Eric Solomon  I am sick of the Mets having players out of position to get a starting lineup on the field, but I am not so sure it wouldn't be worth moving EYJ to second, Murphy back to first and get Duda and his unproductive bat out of the lineup.  I don't think it would make the infield defense much worse, and it would improve the OF defense.

mets2014

@Eric Solomon e young is confirming TC's desire to have him leadoff everyday...he'll have to figure out how to get the other three in the lineup...lagares will see the least amount of time, because c young and granderson have the power bats...I get the love affair with lagares, but when he starts in favor of E young they simply can not win...the numbers don't lie

@Father Dooley Like I said yesterday, they have plenty of their own issues right now. The Yankees may be lucky to walk away with a split.

@mets2014  Something you'd never expect to read: can we afford to lose Duda's defense?!?

@Haig Mathosian  you need some time at AAA.  the kid is in AA.  another over-reation.  give Travis the year to prove himself.  if he can't cut it then next year bring up Pawlecki to compete  for the job.  he should move to AAA sometime soon and IF he can handle that then consider him.

Meanwhile mets and Alderson made some great internal moves in the staff.  Moving mejia to the pen and bringing up Montero and Degrom.  Familla is ready to share the closers's role with mejia and may the best man win.  the other guy gets the 8th.  Degrom could be our 7th inning guy.

Once noah is brought up in july then Colon needs to go on the block for a prospect.  we will have to eat some of his salary but it will be worth it.

Gee, Neise, Wheeler, Noah, Montero works for me .  familla, Mejia and Degrom  ( add in black)  also works for me.

If Wilmer can get it done at SS are we still far away? I don't think so if Wilmer can put a decent season together at SS there's no reason we can get the wild card

Pete Brilvitch

@mets2014 Sometimes, I think the number do lie. I understand the won/loss record is much better with E. Young over Lagares, but is it Lagarus' fault that the bullpen happened to blow at least 3 games (probably more) that he happened to start and EY didn't? Did the Mets come back on Sunday because EY started (partly) or because the Phillies didn't use Paplebon? Anyway, with that said, EY obviously needs to play while he's this hot. I do think you get diminished returns from him when he plays every day though.

Pete Brilvitch
Pete Brilvitch

@Zac Tindall If the young arms work out in the pen and Sandy can swing a deal for a middle of the order type bat, we might have something.

mets2014
mets2014

@Pete Brilvitch in hindsight, the mets should have signed bonafacio and played him at SS...this would have solved the leadoff and SS problems with one player...then they could have relegated e young to the bench and use lagares in CF everyday batting 7...how the roster is currently constructed, e young needs to be batting leadoff and playing LF...I don't think there will be diminished returns since he finds less traditional ways of getting on...once he gets on he has a knack for crossing home plate...period
