Zack Wheeler

What’s on Tap: Wheeler faces Nationals at 1 p.m.

The Mets must guarantee Daisuke Matsuzaka a spot on the Opening Day roster by noon today, otherwise pay him $100,000 to keep him from being able to opt out of his contract (Rubin (ESPN) Mar. 24).

Similarly, Kyle Farnsworth was released Sunday, but is expected to re-sign on a minor-league deal.

Later in the day, Zack Wheeler will start for the Mets as they face Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. in Viera.

The game will not be broadcast on local TV or radio.

The team begins their regular season in six days, facing the Nationals next Monday.

Not sure why it isn't mentioned, but you can occasionally find these games on the other team's station, at least on Direct TV.

Mets can win 90.  Sandy said so. Im drinking the koolaide.

It's easy to be optimistic in Spring. I was that way in the 60's and 70's as a Mets fan. So why not now?  LETS GO METS!

I've been bashing the Mets for going with Dice-K as the 5 starter and demoting Mejia but I think I'm starting to talk myself into it.

In a best case scenario, Mejia would throw maybe 150 innings.  Even if he starts the season with us he'll be shut down in July.  If he's on the farm he can be coddled and only throw a few innings per start, make sure his health and mechanics are perfect and hope Dice-K can hold the fort for a few weeks.

OT: Was it morally wrong for the Jets to sign Michael Vick?

MOVE THE AAA TEAM TO CONEY ISLAND SO WE HAVE SOMETHING EXCITING TO WATCH!!!

Are the Las Vegas games broadcast anywhere on TV?  They may be the best AAA team in baseball, of all time!

I think the plan is right to keep Dice K and send Mejia to AAA until needed, if that's the plan. A SS who can hit would be nice. With the pitching this team has, it could compete for the division.

Vegas is going to have some team

I'm excited to see the player the Mets bring back in return foursome of this excess pitching. We almost have an entire starting staff of young pitching talent with above average to very high ceilings:

Syndagaard (I know he will not be traded)

Montero

Mejia

Degrom

That paired with the veteran talent that can be dealt if the FO decides to stay with some of the up and coming arms...such as Colon or Gee

A deal is near - make it count and bring back a young OF (Giancarlo like) to plug into the middle of this lineup. I don't want to block our 1B prospect who should be ready for the bigs barring injury sometime in 2016

Matsuzaka has earned a roster spot with his performance this spring (and at the end of last year.

@Bob Burket  Mets need to get an every-day shortstop and an impact cleanup hitter for that to be remotely possible.

@Father Dooley In the book "The Lost Dogs" about this issue, Vick swung injured dogs by their legs above his head and slammed them down on the ground to kill them.

Draw your own conclusions.

@Father Dooley Nope, he paid he debt to society, served more time then any of us would in the same situation and has since donated money and time to animal rights foundations.  He's OK in my eyes.

I do find it hypocritical that a guy like Donte Stallworth can kill someone driving under the influence, serve a month in jail, pay off the family, and be free to play in the NFL shortly after.

@Father Dooley  Nope. Not IMO. Football is a barbaric sport by nature and our primitive core demands savages to play the sport out of blood-lust.

@John Paul Cullinane  yeah so the 5 people who go to citified would opt for the cheaper more fun Coney?  that's not gonna happen.

@John Paul Cullinane That would be great, but that would infringe on the Yankee broadcast rights, and since the Mets denied the Yankees request a year or so ago, the chance of that happening is nil.

@Bob Burket The team should have very good pitching, but the defense and the hitting will hold them back.  The pen, will hopefully be better this year.

@Bob Burket You can't win the division when you only win 72-76 games.  The front office really didn't do anything to IMPROVE the win total from last year.  I'm betting on 74 wins and I think that is extremely realistic.

@slainte2 Seriously!! Call up Backman with the rest of them in June

@Adam Dubbs  thought that deal would happen this offseason, apparently Denver didn't want to trade  Cargo, Tulo and Miami was keeping Stanton.

@nolrog @John Paul CullinaneAlright, then...demote everyone in AAA to A-short season later in the summer so we have something to watch...

I think 72-76 is a good range for the number of wins.

Don't forget about Caesar Puello, he'll be called up when C Young is traded.

@Scrubs, wouldn't you agree this team needs offense to support our strength of starting pitching?? Unless you can get Tulo (who has been deemed untouchable by CO FO), or outbid the Yankees for Hanley you wont find the offensive presence we need in our lineup at SS.  If we got an OF who hits for AVG. and POWER a defense first SS (who is of course an upgrade from Tejada) would suffice.

Good feedback by the pitching coach (who gets blamed for every injury on this blog).

Adam Porte

@The Feels @TheTrueStorkHe was painfully slow in his first couple of outings last year. As Gary said in commentary yesterday, he was a game away from maybe losing his job until his performance against the Indians. In his last 4 starts he allowed only 4 runs.

Adam Porte
Adam Porte

@BringBackDaveTelghe @Father Dooley He had terrible trouble in his first 3 starts, but in his last 4 he let up 13 hits, 9 walks and 4 earned runs in 26 1/3 innings. I'd say he was very poor in the first 3 starts, and very good in the last 4.

@vimets  why would someone trade for Chris Young he was available for nothing.

@hankypanky Have you seen the number of injuries this blog sustains?  Just the other day, they thought we had two guys playing 2nd and Teagarden was batting twice in the line up.  That's clearly a concussion related injury on the blog.
