Another freaking platoon!?

Let them play, let them play against lefties and righties, TC. How the hell are they supposed to learn and get used to major league pitching with a platoon?

Enough already

I love how Kirk rides the pine despite his OPS and great defense.

You just know that Collins will be batting Flores 8th again today (unless he puts his favorite - Tejada back in there).  In Terry's thinking, shortstops HAVE to bat 8th.  And despite Flores having clearly been the superior offensive player throughout his minor league career to den Dekker and Kirk, they will bat higher in the lineup than Flores.

Give it a rest about Flores defense. He is not replacing Ozzie Smith in his prime or Rafael Santana either for that matter.

Did he look clumsy? Yes. He is in the line up to produce runs.

For those saying they could have lost that game because of his defense I will add they would have lost that game if he did not drive in the only run before extra innings

If we were playing a better team last night we'd have lost that game. Good teams take advantage of extra chances and the Phillies had at least three extra outs. Playoff teams cash those outs in for runs.

Duds has hit .170 in 70 abs this year against leftys, why would you not leave Cambell at 1st against Leftys, it's been working, bringing Duda off the bench after lefty out of game, denDekker is hitting .275 with .375 obp against lefts in AAA and is a super defender, give him the shot he has earned and stop with the BS and daily changes, Duda hitting .228 over previous 3 yrs against lefty so not like this year is any different, tremendous #s out of platoon! don't mess with it and give Matt his everyday shot and why your at it do the same for Flores!

If there is a logical way to do things you can always count on Terry to the exact opposite.

Terry, you're a piece of work.  We're told denDekker will be getting the bulk of the playing time to see what we have in Matt. He hasn't yet started a game and already he's demoted to a platoon with Campbell.  Unbelievable....

IS 90 wins still on the table Sandy?

The Mets have now won seven games at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia this season, with two more games there to go.  The Mets have never won nine games in the same park on the road in a single season.  The most road wins in a season in one park for the Mets to date are:

8 wins over the Marlins at Dolphins Stadium in 2007

8 wins over the Nationals at RFK Stadium in 2006

8 wins over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in 1986

8 wins over the Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium in 1986

8 wins over the Cubs at Wrigley Field in 1974 (the Cubs won seven over the Mets at Shea that season -- two terrible teams)

8 wins over the Phillies at Veterans Stadium in 1972

Dammit Terry.

What is it about a guy leading a league in hitting that doesn't warrant full time.

We know what we have with Campbell, not with den Dekker .

Play him full time!

Only 6 games out in the Wild Card... 8 games in the division, could be 6,5 if we sweep and the Braves win tonight... I'm telling you, the demotion of Chris Young (and the call up of MDD and the more playing time given to Flores) has sparked this team to a miracle run. Last night would be a certain loss just a week ago. David is due to break out... You gotta believe!

The only reason I'm not surprised is because it's Terry Collins.

Glider is correct. Al you have to do is to check back to the last series with SF and the Nats to prove his point.

Rimo Chaloney

@theglider  Oh give it a rest.  Tejada is not the answer at SS for the Mets going forward.  The Mets need to find out if Flores can hit at the major league level and SS is the only place they can play him as this team is configured now.

jenkins

@semperfi Flores should have been platooning with Duda all year. Nothing wrong with doing that now

hankypanky
hankypanky

It's called platooning. Depends on the pitcher being righty or lefty.

theglider
theglider

Where do you see that? He'll play today. Yesterday he flew cross country and they had a tough lefty. Let him rest from the flight before starting.

@borsh13 If he hits up here like he did in AAA, nobody will care about his defense.  End of story.

stemog

@borsh13 He's not that bad and he'll only get better with regular reps there. He hasn't cost them anything, so let him play. It's hard to judge when he plays the position once or twice a week.

Pete Brilvitch

I haven't seen the horrible defense from Flores that everyone's talking about. He does look awkward out there, but he's been getting the job done. Perhaps he'll be exposed in time, but I haven't seen it yet.

spelletrader
spelletrader

The kid has a double pump in his throw, he needs to eliminate that and play the position regularly and he'll be around replacement level at short.

That said, I do like to see him bat in rbi situations. I can see why they want to find him a position.

Leif Granlind
Leif Granlind

@borsh13 He saved the game with a great throw to Duda for the last out. I have been skeptical of Flores defense and even favored Tejada but now seeing Flores last few games made me change my opinion.

Billy Suede

@hankypanky except the mets aren't a good team. they are a team in transition so there goes that.

theglider
theglider

You're the one bringing up shortstop. I simply said they can't give away outs. Good teams take advantage if that.

Why do you feel it necessary to mention Flores?

Mike Herrington
Mike Herrington

@Rimo Chaloney @theglider I don't believe Flores is the long term answer for SS either. I don't believe the Mets do either. But you might as well play the best possible player or the best possible potential player and that is Flores right now. Flores is going to make many a Mets fan cringe over his defense, his bat better overcome what his defense lacks. Otherwise Mets fans are going to question his one dimension play much like Tejada's.

I wish Flores the best.

@Pete Brilvitch and you won't. these are the skeptics finding any way to justify their nonsensical hatred of a young player who they didn't like from the jump.

hankypanky

Defenders of Flores's poor defense will have the rest of the season defending him and blaming Duda for bad throws. Since we have the rest of the season to watch Flores, let's see if he can grow and develop and settle the argument once and for all. By then there will be no more excuses. It almost reminds me of the toxic atmosphere that surrounded Valdespin last year.

hankypanky
hankypanky

That "great throw" was a routine play to first. Are we going to be hearing this for the rest of the season?

Rimo Chaloney
Rimo Chaloney

@theglider  Oh please glider, anybody who reads your posts knows you're the biggest Tejada booster on this forum.  You were talking about Flores defense vs. Tejada.  Don't play cute that you weren't talking about that.

Leif Granlind
Leif Granlind

@hankypanky Wouldn't say routine, you have to factor in the type of situation, ball game was on the line.
