What’s on Tap: Mets off, Niese to pitch in minor league game

The Mets are off on Tuesday. They play their second game of the season on Wednesday against the Nationals at Citi Field at 7:10 p.m.

Jon Niese is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game on Tuesday. If all goes well, Niese will be activated from the disabled list and start against Cincinnati on April 6 at Citi Field.

Bartolo Colon will get the start for the Mets, opposed by Gio Gonzalez for Washington.

Minaya>Alderson

At least MOST of Minaya's major league teams were competitive. Yes, he spent lavishly, traded with some recklessness, and he LOVED too many "reclamation projects" (something we're seeing isn't Omar specific), but he had the Mets in contention for 4 consecutive seasons... and Sandy?

Even IF the METS had won that game, what can you expect   from a team with an improper first baseman, a mentally and physically weak shortstop, and a crap-shoot bullpen, and with their best pitcher watching from the sidelines.?

I'm just hoping for the Niese of 2012. Is that to much to ask for? I don't know. I believe he has it in him he just has to stay healthy (easier said than done, especially with this team). In 2012 it seemed like every start was 7IP and giving up 1 or 2 runs, they were super quality starts. That's the past though and we are in the present. It's just so tough to watch him go through injury.

Lets Go Mets!
Lets Go Mets!

Plenty of positives from the Mets opening day game:

  • Lagares, Brown, and Wright all homered!
  • Lagares and Wright combined for 5 hits!
  • Dillon Gee pitched like an ace!

These are all reasons for optimism!

Let's Go Mets!!!

I think after signing Abreu, the Mets should now lock up Lannan and Tejada with long term deals.

It is good that today is a day off.  It will give the over worked bullpen a chance to rest.

@Lets Go Mets!  We lost and the bullpen sucks again. Same story for 5 years running. The Mets strategy is to drop further and further behind in payroll in the MLB. This ownership is a disgrace. The only answer is to stay away from the stadium such that the Wilpons lose so much money that they are forced to sell.

Bobby Abreu? John Lannan? Are you kidding me????

@tullydew  That joke wasn't funny to begin with. Posting the same comment on every post on this site will not enhance its comedic value.

Sandy Ball, he's had 4 years to build a bullpen.
