What’s on Tap: Niese faces Braves at 7:10 p.m.

The Mets begin a 10-game homestand against the Braves at Citi Field on Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET

Jon Niese gets the start for the Mets, opposed by Aaron Harang for the Braves.

The Mets will activate Chris Young from the 15-day disabled list before the game. Andrew Brown or Kirk Nieuwenhuis are expected to be demoted to make room on the roster for Young.

Curtis Granderson, who was injured running into the outfield wall on Monday in Arizona, is expected to return to the starting lineup.

The game will air on SNY and can be heard on WOR 710 AM radio.

Later in the day, Rafael Montero will make his fourth start of the season for Triple-A Las Vegas.

The real issue is not who gets sent down...but who, namely, Grandy starts hitting...or else we are going to have another Carlos Baerga on our hands....It's time to put together nice homestand...LETS GO METS!!!!

Nice forum today. All business, all baseball. Nice to see the haters are somewhere else.

Nothing about how Syndergard isn't the chosen one?  How about mentioning the article about how a "source" said the Mets aren't thrilled with his approach.  Sounds exactly like Harvey before he was brought up.

I'd demote Satin, as Brown is perfectly capable of playing first too.

Keith H. suggested Kirk goes down since they want him to play everyday. That makes sense. Brown is more of an extra OF while Kirk N. has potential to be an everyday guy, if not here, on some other team. Ultimately, they need to send Ike down or trade him -- he's an everyday guy too, and obviously they think Duda is their everyday 1B. Maybe by the time Lagares is ready to come back, something will give there.

If EY was able to play shortstop it would solve half our problems this year.

I'm not sure what the debate here is...Satin is the back up 1Bman...from the RH side.  BROWN plays 1B too.  SATIN does NOT play the OF.  Brown is a RHB.  It's 2 moves:  Activate CYoung from the DL; Option Satin to Las Vegas.  While Lagares is out and while CYoung is....brittle, not a bad idea to have Kirk close by....instead of 2100 miles away.

Later, when Lagares gets back, send Kirk back to Vegas.  Now, let CYoung lead off.  Let's take CYoung's ST and rehab stats out for a spin and see what she can do...

Anyone here think the Rays, being desperate for pitching this year, would ever consider Wil Myers straight up for Jon Niese?

Satin or Brown should go down.  Satin serves no purpose at all really. Yes he's a right hitting 1B, but we do not need 3 1B on the bench.  Ridiculous!

Let's go Mets!  Crush the dirty Bravos at Citi!

We can't forget how well ey has been playing so far. He's the only real leadoff hitter we have. When he gets on base, it really sets up the offense, and so far he's been getting on base.

Can't wait to get a healthy Lagares back.  I also hope CY hits the way he did during his rehab games.  He is probably not going to hit as much but, he was tearing the cover off the ball.  It is only a matter of time before Granderson heats up.  This is going to be a dangerous lineup.

Send Ike Davis, Tejada, down on the farm. It seems the only ones who play are the  ones with bigger contracts. How come Grandy is still playing with a .160 average.

@qualcomm This is one of those posts where you should close your eyes and count to 10 before you decide to send it.  I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not this clueless.

@qualcomm  i think Will Myers straight up for Harvey might happen if he comes back and re-establishes himself as an ace.

So who are we putting up to bat when a left handed reliever comes in and proceeds to throw 3 dirtballs Ike/Duda Chase?

niesesnose

Satin does serve a purpose, he plays vs. Lefties. Ike is the one who should be sent down

BringBackDaveTelghe

Yeah, he had but be fair, he was an automatic out for a week before that and even know his hits have been dying quails that just aren't fielded in time.

When he's hot he's fine but in actuality he's a terrible leadoff man when you look at his seasons in full.

@metsfan36  But when lagares comes back, you still want ey starting?because granderson and chris young are going to play almost everyday

texasmetsfan
texasmetsfan

@Victor Triguero why?  Brown has done well in his limited playing time and is a good RH pinch hitting option.  Kirk needs to play...he won't play much with 4 OF's ahead of him.

Chad Snaider
Chad Snaider

@BiggieTKB  lol, i dont think he will hit this well in the majors, but for sure he is an upgrade from tejada

James
James

@greekgod  At no point should we be benching Grandy after 15 games, he might have been good for a day off without the hit into the wall, but you don't give up on your major acquisition after 15 games.  Davis and Tejada are different situations obviously, the problem with Tejada is what the heck are you going to replace him with and Davis there is that love affair issue.

Pete Brilvitch
Pete Brilvitch

There are $60 million reasons why he's still playing. He'll need to fail for a lot longer than 15 games before potentially losing a job.

@C.K. Dexter Haven @qualcomm We tried to trade Dickey to the Royals for Myers straight up and they refused and this was a month after Dickey had just won a Cy Young award. That's how highly Myers is evaluated.

Mark Kohn

@niesesnose Ike isn't chasing those balls anymore. Haven't you been paying attention since he was sent down last year?

Joseph DeFazio
Joseph DeFazio

@niesesnose  Ike/Duda have to adjust, plain and simple.  You can't carry 3 1B's because 2/3 don't hit Lefties.  Kirk gives you speed and some power.  Satin can only play 1B. Also, as much as everyone is down on Kirk based on last year, he's still only 26.  If anything, he shows he can play and is packaged for a deal that brings a SS or legitimate 1B to this team later this summer.

Joseph DeFazio
Joseph DeFazio

@niesesnose  Ike makes 3.5 million dollars, so let's be realistic, he's not going anywhere unless they trade him or just cut him loose.

Maybe the new "hunting for strikes" philosophy is paying off for EY?

metsfan36

Yeah I'm not sure what they're gonna do. I agree that the other 3 should be starting over ey, but at the same time, ey's the only leadoff catalyst guy they have. He's been 9-9 in sb, and doing a lot of goof things on the basepaths, like scoring from first on a single with 2 out(with a slight bobble on of's part). I'm not really sure what they should do, just saying we should pay attention to what he's done for us so far.

@Gerard Farrell @BiggieTKB  Wilmer is getting out of his offensive funk, having 2 consecutive multi-hit games. Seems to be assimilating back to the SS position.

As bad as Tejada has been, Flores wouldn't be an upgrade, that's how bad his d will be.

texasmetsfan

@James @greekgod Lost in the Mets decent raod trip is how poorly Tejada is hitting...something like .190.  I am still for replacing him with Flores.

@Zach Goeringer @qualcomm You're right, but they don't need a Dickey deal.  Myers is good, but not a Hall Of Famer or anything.  Niese is a solid #3 and their whole year might go down the toilet if they don't do something.   I just wonder if they'd bite.

Zach Goeringer
Zach Goeringer

@qualcomm Niese will never have a year like Dickey had that year, not even remotely close. Sure he's making an affordable salary but so is Myers right now. Niese will never be more than a 3rd or 4th starter on a good team, the Rays also rarely ever trade for major league talent, they are a small market team that was at the top of the draft for 5 years. Myers is the type of player they will develop into a strong major league hitter and then ship him off when his contract year is coming up for 2 or 3 minor league studs and then repeat the process.

qualcomm
qualcomm

@Zach Goeringer @C.K. Dexter Haven@qualcomm Yes, but now he's seen MLB pitching so the new car smell is dulled... they're desperate for pitching right away and Niese is a proven starter making an affordable salary.

Also, a proven lefty is worth more than a old junk ball pitcher, even one that won a Cy Young in a freak year.  Only the Blue jays were dumb enough to do that deal.

Even if Kirk and mashed in AAA, it'll only reinforce the fact he is an AAAA player with a 4th OF ceiling.

@metsfan36  The Yankees are the only AL team on the schedule for the next 6 weeks, so there's no room for one of the outfielders to DH

@metsfan36  ya thats true, maybe lagares could try and lead off. but i just dont see juan sitting on the bench. i guess will see
