Travis d’Arnaud, on the DL with a concussion, felt much better on Wednesday. He passed initial concussion tests, and is scheduled to see doctors on Thursday. He may be cleared to return soon.

Juan Lagares, who flew to the Dominican Republic on Monday after the death of his Aunt, returned to the team on Wednesday.

In the past the Mets would be the team that gives Greinke a rare bad outing making us feel good about this team again but then fall to some unknown pitcher the next night. But with this current team I'm not even sure we'll get that.

One word can describe the Mets game-play last night....Boring. I found myself playing Candy Crush Saga that was more exciting.

Texas gives up 22 yr old AA RHP Luke Jackson,A 3b Joey Gallo and AA Reliever Phil Klein for Dillon Gee,Meija and a mid grade prospect..i wonder if Texas would go for that?

The Wilpons promised all Met fans. This year they would spend money. TV revenue up for all mlb teams. Mets payroll close to the bottom. The Mets do play in New York. The Mets ticket prices up. Enough is enough. Excuses stories are getting old. Mets do not hit in Citifield. Why because they have crap for players. Boycott the Mets!!!!!!

I just thought of something...for all the "cost cutting" maneuvers Sandy has made this season so far, why in the hell do the Mets have 4 GMs?  Sandy, John Ricco, Riccardi and DePodesta ALL need to be employed to acquire talent??  Really?  And if so.....why the hell isn't the talent level on this team higher?

Mets are 5 and 14 there last 19 games, they stink, time to see all the kids. Valverde should never pitch again for this team. Tejeda is not the answer I wanna see flores the rest of the way. I would like to see Soup at least in a platoon at first and playing outfield as well over CY and EY who suck in my opinion. Lagares has to play everyday. I don't care how bad he is TDA has to start everyday day when he's ready, we have to find out ab this guy. I would love to see colon gone, horrible signing we needed offense so bad and we wasted 10 mil of our budget on starting pitching.

Welp, you have all convinced me, but actually it's the Mets play of late that has convinced me, that this this season is over.  Now the only thing I have to look forward to is the first Giants pre-season game, August 3rd, against Buffalo.

I was hoping the Mets would be relevant until then, but what was I thinking...WHAT WAS I THINKING???

Sadly I don't think the big bat they are looking for is going to come - if it does - until the offseason. I would however keep an eye out on what is going on out in Arizona with management. I wonder - though doubt - if they decide to do a rebuild, if they would consider putting Goldschmidt on the block just to see what they could get for him. It would take a monster package of 5-6 players (both on the MLB level and minor league level) but I wonder if the two teams could come together on a trade where the Mets send 5-6 players in return for Goldschmidt AND one of their SS's.

Of course Arizona could just build around Goldy because of his age and cheap contract and it would make sense. But the truth is they could also cash him in and get a ton in return for him. In that ballpark where the ball flies, they probably could get good offense from any mediocre 1B.

Do you know what the worst part about all of this is?  Worse than the losing: every Yankee fan is now laughing at me, at us, and the only way to shut them up is to win.

Maybe they'll get rained out tonight. It'll be a victory of sorts, since they won't get tagged with another loss

Nothing will change for years to come......Wilpon owes too much money and he wants the team to be in his son's name forever. Only a new owner will things change and from this mountain it ain't happening. This is a AAA team playing in the MLB league.

kefhrny17

There's absolutely no accountability for this whole organization. And there's not one thing that convinces me that anything is going to change. We're not getting a new owner or GM or manager. Maybe another hitter?? Maybe?? This organization is ridiculous and that's too bad because I love this team.

It would be nice to have a true slugger on this team..Wright isn't one neither is Grandy...Sandy needs to make a trade for a cleanup hiter because we need it badly.

nolrog brings up a great point below.  The Mets need to go 70-47 the rest of the way to get to 90.  However, let's say 88 wins gets you that 2nd wildcard berth.  At this point what would it take to get there this year?  Are there any paths to get there, any at all?

I thought Wilpon was cheap and broke.

I am so tired of hearing the problem is Citifield. Absolutely not the problem. We just have poor hitters who have warning track power and Duda and grandy can only  hit for power when they get a mistake pitch.Besides Wright, who can't catch up with fastballs and curves breaking outside, and Murphy, our hitters are questionable. We need power hitters and Olerud types that can hit the good pitchers, not just the 4th and 5th starters.

“Wally Backman is one of the best baseball guys you can be around,” Collins said. “He knows how to win; he knows all about it. That has been his whole life.”

“Many years ago, I was told by a manager that players take on the personality of their manager,” Mets manager Terry Collins said last month. “If the players that leave Las Vegas take on Wally’s personality, we’ll be better in New York.”

@Albert E Lewis  That does not sound like a good trade, unless the Wilpons are getting some cash in the deal. Arh... conspiracies!!

greekgod

@Uri Bloch  They did not say that ........they don't have the money to spend on players due to the scam Madoff had and Wilpon had gotten the cash to spill on the roster but Madoff got caught plus Wilpon has to make up the monies due to the investors.......something like $400ml........and they just got a loan of $250ml. for payroll and loan of CitiField. OUCH!!!!!!!!

@dotelmotel  You think LaRussa is going to go over there and in 2 months make one of his first orders of business to trade the cornerstone of the team?  Not likely.  I think he'll trade one of those SS for sure.  Holding on to 3 makes no sense.   Concentrate on that.  They can use SPs.  But it's going to take a 2 to 1 trade at least IMO.

Not so fast. Yankee fans are choking on their roster of over-the-hill aging old men and diminished starting rotation. They are a shell of their former selves and are blaming their mediocre performance on, guess who? The manager.

@Father Dooley  This season is over guys, 5 games under 500 and things are only going south. Let's hope that the Mets get a good 1st round pick next season. The next Chris Davis or Bryce Harper.

Nice thought. Who do you have in mind? What slugger can we get and for what players in return? Face it. The other team would only take our BEST pitching prospects, and that includes Syndergaard.

@Steven Matregrano  I'm not smart enough to figure a way to boo/protest the owners and FO, but support the players.  Most of these players are doing their best.  They're just out of their league at this level.  IDK if Terry is a bad manager or if his bad-ness is on par with other managers in the league.  I know i'm sick to death of Sandy at this point.  I don't think that should call my fandom in to question. I'm not from Oakland.  I grew up in NYC...my expectations are bit higher, and my patience a bit lower and i'm offended that Sandy didn't take that into consideration when he signed on here.

nolrog

@D But if players take on the managers personaltiy, wouldn't they take on Collins's personaltiy when they got here and turn into incompetent buffons?

90wins
90wins

@hankypanky  Of course it's the manager's fault. The Yankees are loaded with talents. If their stars are not playing at their full potential, it has to be the culture or the environment that is not conducive. Just look at Beltran or even Ike Davis. When the management stinks they tend to under perform. Beltran did better with the Giants/Cards after leaving the Mets, so is Ike after leaving the Mets.

nolrog

@hankypanky The over-the-hill aging old men and diminshed starting rotation still has them in first place.

@Joseph DeFazio @greekgod  Its not only the money that they cherish  but the notoriety  that comes with owning a major league team....instead of cocaine its being an owner of one of them.

@spelletrader  Or with this manager. This is the type of manager that could conceivably manage the team out of a potential playoff chance if they are close. And why not? He has a history of that with his previous team.

@Steven Matregrano @ifti99  Don't see how one of Gee Niese or Murphy are not moved due just to money. Maybe they will but I don't see the Met's increasing payroll by 10+ million and still not add anybody.

Like it or not we are not a big market team and have payroll constraints

spelletrader

Even if managed impeccably, they just don't have the offense. Collins is a problem, but not *the* problem.

The problems are at every level:

Ownership: broke and cheap

Front office: acquiring poor talent/too many gms

Coaching staff: no defined roles, confusion, poor in game decision making

Players: lack of talent at 4 or 5 positions, bullpen has holes, starting rotation doesn't often pitch deep into games

Some of these things are surmountable, all together... well, you've seen them play.

D
D

@Steven Matregrano @D  Some folks understandably can't fault Terry due to what he's had to work with, other folks have seen enough to know that even if given a real major league team, he will never get them to overachieve.  Based on what I've watched these last 3+ yrs, and his track record elsewhere, he will not squeeze a few extra Wins out of any given roster, I am very confident in that, and even more confident he'd probably put a few extra in the L column

D
D

@Steven Matregrano @D  Sandy has his pros and cons... I like how he has put emphasis on building around young pitching, I don't like how he has spent the available money he has had to spend throughout his tenure.. I also don't like how stubborn he seems to be in trying to fit every peg into his ideal hole (With regards to Hitting Approach, and trying to build a Homerun or Strikeout Team in a Gap Hitting, Speed oriented home ball park)... I'm willing to give Sandy one more year, personally...

Terry, on the other hand, has far more Cons than Pros in my book, and he will never be the right guy to lead them around the corner and into the promised land should Sandy get his end of the deal right

D
D

@Steven Matregrano @D  Thats just dandy, dood, but u don't seem to have anything better to do than let it bother you that some fans are done with this dog and pony show in the front office and dugout

Tarheel11

@Steven Matregrano  Agreed. But assuming you are able to free up ALL of Colon's money in dealing him (questionable) and you add nothing! Arb increases are going to be big. Gee, Murphy, EY, Meija, alone, let alone Duda and Tejada that I can think of. That will more than likely amount to around 15M. Plus add in escalated contracts of Niese, Grandy that will add another 5M. So there's another 20M increase. And that assumes you don't get anybody else in the bullpen and noone else to play SS or replace CY. Exactly why I see them moving a Gee or a Niese.
