Rubin is reporting that EY has been "scratched", due to having been hit by a "ricochet" underneath his right eye in batting practice.  Being taken for X-rays.  Looks like Legares will start after all.

Fire Collins and Warthan and we might win a game with 17 hits and 10 runs.

Does it really matter if lagares sits one game? We are about to get swept in a four game series. Anyone with a brain can see that's what's going to happen. The Rockies actually have a real team(as opposed to the mess we have)

Lagares is not starting. Here come the TC bashers.

How does Sandy enter this season with Tejada as his Prime SS, when he said on 12/5 at the Winter Meetings his #1 goal was to secure a SS.

Then in ST he said, Tejada went to training in Mich. , and we don't feel he will hit .210 again. He was right, he is hitting.192 now.

METS MINORS blog 4/25 to see Sandy's Draft pick performances.

Judge the team on performance rather then possibility of performance like you do everything else in your life and the light bulb will turn on.

See Mets Minors blog here to see how wonderful his draft picks are doing. They listed them all yesterday.

I hate hearing about the Beltran, Dickie trades. Salary dumps to contenders who were WILLING to move those top prospects to getthem. Sandy did not bring a gun. Tell me about some of his other great trades.

How' Pagan and Colin Mchugh doing?

This team isn't close and yet the front office keeps claiming they are. And fans just buy into it. When will they realize they're being tricked and winning isn't a priority for the Mets.

As I've said before, good teams try to field a winning club. The Mets sign scrap heap players and hope their fans are fooled.

Young players take time to develop, especially pitchers. So does this mean we are MANY years away from contending being that we keep hearing about all the young players?? Or, are we going to throw the weight of the world on their shoulders and try and control their personalities on and off the field to the point they implode or want out?? How about letting these young guys come into a GOOD environment where they can LEARN and PROGRESS without the pressures of having to be THE guy!!

Sandy has struggled mightily to produce an effective BP in each one of

his 4 years. He has never made a trade for an effective relief pitcher, an his FA signings have been horrible.

In addition, NONE of his drafts have produced a Major Leager or a productive AAA player. He passed on last years ROTY Fernandez, to take SS D Cecchini who hasn't hit, has no power and can't run. Sound familar.

Anyone care to notice that Chris Young was brilliant in the field yesterday? The Mets are lucky to have him, but the whiners will continue to hate him.

If you were Hanrahan who would you sign with Tigers and maybe win WS or Mets and maybe make WC.Just because a player who fits a need is available doesn't mean the Mets can sign him.Thats why it's important the young Mets develop,so other players will see a team on the rise and be willing to sign here.A lot like Hernandez in 1984.

@Victor Triguero As fans we can only keep complaining and refuse to go to the games.  Actually the better thing to do would be to exhibit complete apathy and not even watch or pay attention to the team, but that's tough to do.

I'm holding out hope that eventually the Wilpons' debt obligations will force them to sell.  Supposedly they were close to refinancing this major debt obligation that is due in June, but I haven't seen where that was actually finalized.

We were told all off season about shortstop and first. They've done nothing about short and first is still a mess. Yet upper management does nothing.

Parnell was hurt and coming off surgery yet no move to help the bullpen. And management tells us things are improving.

This organization loses year after year and we're told next year will be the year. How many next years do these fans give them??

@1harris1  I also hope he's OK, but it took that event to keep Juan in the starting lineup.  Fire TC already.

@Victor Triguero I know record wise its acceptable. But, I'm not very confident in this team are you? I would be very surprised if they play October baseball. Even for next year.Wright and Granderson are getting older. D'arnaud is not what we thought he'd be. Sure he needs to learn the big leagues, but that doesn't make me feel better as a fan. Wheeler needs to learn too. Great, i'm sure they will, but this isn't a team on the cusp. I don't want to hear that. Harvey next year, great, fingers crossed. And another year of older less dynamic lineup, and either old or very young and raw bullpen. Who is becoming that guy on this team? Marlins have that guy at the top of their rotation, Marlins have that guy in the middle of the order, that guy closing games. the kid Capps will be their set up man soon, Eovaldi is becoming what we want Wheeler to be to Harvey. They have talent , young talent at the Major League level. Yet people say they are years away. We still have to acquire talent, bring the young guys up. Get them adjusted,if they ever do. I don't think we are in great shape for the future.

I remember after the start against the Braves and Washington there was a projection of "lucky to be 10-17 by end of April"? Well then they overachieved with an erratic offense...not bad.

Your examples show a pretty level playing field right now. On top of them, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh have struggled a ton. It is early and DW seems to be warming up and Grandy is starting to look comfortable.

Not with Mejia on the mound in the 5th inning.

Shucks, anyone can see that sitting Largares is part of a vast conspiracy. Are we forgetting Valdespin already? Last I heard he was locked away in solitary in the Marlins farm system away from view.

@eric88 When it dawned on him that he'd either have to spend some money or actually part with a prospect in order to acquire a legitimate SS.

McHugh was total crap with the Mets. Don't be ridiculous.

Blaming Sandy for passing up on Fernandez is absurd. And for the most part all of Sandy's top picks have been high school guys. And Dom Smith is very highly rated 1b prospect. Blame Sandy on the bullpen, not the draft.

@eric88
Also, Rafael Montero, who was not drafted but signed has been a productive AAA pitcher.

@eric88
Well, considering most of Sandy's top draft picks have been high school players, it's pretty convenient that you choose AAA players as a cut off.  You're also ignoring that Nimmo is absolutely destroying the ball so far and GC is hitting as well.

For? He wanted to rest a player who was in the DL a few days ago. If Lagarres gets hurt today you'll be the first screaming that he should have been rested

@11gilkey  Oh jesus, don't even bring up McHughs name.. Look I like to bash the ownership and management as much as the next guy but McHugh was a loser with the Mets. A career journeyman. He's had 2 good starts. He'll be back to earth before you know it

Nick Squatrito
Nick Squatrito

@adam  How about taking Ruben Tejada 2.0 in Chechinni and passing up Wacha? Or should we not blame him for that either?

Nick Squatrito
Nick Squatrito

@buckets @eric88  Rafael Montero was signed by Minaya. So was Mejia and Familia. None of them have anything to do with Alderson. If they did they would be pitching well for another organization

eric88

@kefhrny17  BS. Everyone Knew about him. The SS pick was stupid. limited athlete, not toolsy.

Nick Squatrito
Nick Squatrito

@buckets @eric88  Nimmo may be tearing the cover off the ball but he's also in Single-A. He struggled mightily at Single-A last year. He'll probably be no more than a 4th outfielder on a good team. You're first sentence is exactly what's wrong with Alderson. This team needs help and needs it fast yet he decides he's going to keep drafting 17 year olds that'll take 6 years in the minors. The only one of the 3 he got right is Dom Smith. Where we were placed in the draft it was shocking he was still on the board kid was a legit no brainer. Nimmo instead of Fernandez, Checchini instead of Wacha... I would love to see how he screws up the draft this year

eric88
eric88

@buckets @eric88  Fernandez was hih school in 2012. He already won rookie of the year. Fine, lets go down to AA, now who? And why all high schoolers. Miniya's last pick, a collage pitcher, Matt Harvey

Agreed, with a hamstring injury it wouldn't be bad to rest Largaras a few times over the next two weeks.

@Nick Squatrito @buckets @eric88  Wow, that was quite a trick, signing Montero after he was fired.  Montero was signed in January of 2011.  Minaya was fired in October 2010.

False.  Average tools across the board makes an extremely valuable player at SS.

@buddyryan @eric88 @kefhrny17  Checchinis ceiling is Ruben Tejada and not much more. He'll be lucky to even make it to the big leagues. OK you're right, let's forget about Fernandez for a moment. How about taking Checchini before Wacha?

@eric88 @kefhrny17Weak hitting SS with little athletic ability, don't the Mets already have plenty of those on the Major and Minor league rosters?

@Nick Squatrito
How can you fault him for only being in A ball?  He turned 21 two months ago.  He'll likely finish the year in AA.

Pete Brilvitch

Funny, I don't remember anyone complaining back in 2011 when we selected Nimmo over Fernandez. Easy to complain now that you know that Fernandez is an all-star. Nimmo is tearing up advanced A and people are still bitching. Don't know if Nimmo will be a star or not, but he looks like he could end up being a solid player.
