Colon, if you win tonight you the whole cake.

Any chance we get to see Flores play tonight? Or is he simply roster filler for a couple days?

The Mets have to be careful. 0-6 is definitely within reach and could be devastating to a team with marginal confidence. TC better play aggressively and hit and run, steal, whatever it takes. The Reds were all over us last year, and the Nats look to be dominant.

well it's still early, and enough time to adjust to Parnells absence. Where ever u find solid rp,  just find them..

Anyone notice that Seattle, a supposedly small market team that nevertheless found the bucks, started the season 2-0?

Why didn't  the Mets put Mejia in the bullpen.  If you look at next years starting rotation there is no place for him.  Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergard, Niese, Colon, Gee, Montero.  That's 7 guys that are possibly ahead of him.  Either they put mejia and montero in the bullpen or they better trade one for an established reliever or two.

Did I mention that I hate the Blue and Red caps?  We ain't the Cubs.  Just sayin.

Maybe Wilmer Flores can be our modern day Lou Gehrig except he replaces Tejada instead of Murphy. Lets Hope!

The first month of the season should be days games only. It's too cold to play at night.

The Mets are insane if they are not going after Nunez.

Murphy's wife gave birth on Monday. Today is Wednesday. There is no reason for him not to be here.

@cleonsvan  Careful? What the heck does that mean?

You try to win every game. It's not like the Mets are going anywhere this year anyhow.

@upstater  What's the point? That they've played two games out of 162?

Always Liked Mejia as a closer. His Delivery is a little violent and may not hold up to a large amount of work

I think a lot of people would like to put Mejia in the pen, but he has done poorly there every time it's been tried.

Why don't you wait and see how mejia performs this year. He pitched well last year and during the spring so saying that those 7 guys are ahead of him is a little premature

I hate to say I hate anything, but I do hate those caps.  I call them the clown hats.

@ifti99  Nunez isn't actually very good. He's not even a better fielder or hitter than Tejada.

1harris1

If he's so wonderful, how come the Yankees didn't keep him? They could have plugged him in at either second base or third base where they clearly have needs. Nunez at SS makes Tejada look like Ozzie Smith. No thanks.

Pete Brilvitch

@ifti99 If you want an offensive SS with questionable fielding, why not just give the job to Flores.

@Joe Dellaragione Are you high or just out of touch? Murph has a right and should be with his Wife and baby for at least a few days. Baseball is not end all be all. Come on Dude!

@Joe Dellaragione  Seriously.  Get some perspective on life.  It's his first child and one baseball game.  Its not like he's going to play 162 games this year and is likely to miss a game for much less of a reason than his wife giving birth to their first child.  Maybe she had complications.  You don't know.  Either way, have some perspective. Game 2 in the Mets chase for 74 wins is pretty meaningless.

Paternity leave is a collectively bargained for right by the players. We can make do without him for a few days.

@ifti99 @cleonsvan It was more symbolic or metaphorical than a literal use of the word. I think the rest of my statement captures the spirit of my meaning.

@Steven Matregrano @cleonsvan  Well I don't think you should count on us scoring 7 or more runs because it isn't their ace going. Gio handles the Mets better than does Strassburg!  It's a shame we screwed up Mondays game because if we can't win when we score 7, then we are in trouble!

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@bingmets This is why fans opinions don't matter and why GMS don't listen to us. Let's re-shuffle Mejia back to the pen when we have no idea if any of those other pitchers will perform better than him. Will Harvey throw 95 again? Will Wheeler find better control? Will Colon be here? Will Niese be healthy? Is Thor and Montero even better than him at this point? Probably not, but let's move Mejia back to pen right now because we think he's behind the other guys.

Zach Goeringer
Zach Goeringer

Because a successful starting pitcher is a lot more valuable as a player and a trade chip than a guy who throws a good 7th inning.

osujerry
osujerry

@bingmets  It's worth a shot but I guess what I'm saying is that they need to put 1 or 2 of that group in the pen or make a trade this offseason.

@1harris1  The Wilpons' Mets corporation may not follow all financial laws to the letter, but they do have to follow federal and New York State family and medical leave statutes, in addition to what is in the players' agreement. Mongs.

@gloveman @Steven Matregrano@cleonsvanYes but remember Murph and C Young were out. I think even with what relievers did (or didnt do) that might have been a win with those 2 guys.

Today is a big unknown. Colon has been kept a secret to them in Spring for purpose. We'll see how that goes. I dont think Gio is that good, I think offense helped him get his record last year.

kefhrny17
kefhrny17

@Steven Matregrano  Calm down bruh, I wasn't by any means mocking you.  And if the pen didn't walk half of the Nats, they would've won, if Gee didn't give up 2 run HR they could've won... you see where I'm going?  Your point is moot.

@Steven Matregrano  I think most of us value "trying to be funny" more so than making a point. Sorry dude, humor wins!

I agree I think that they should've brought up degrom for the bullpen.. the guy is almost 26 and I just don't see a scenario where he will ever be able to slide into the rotation

Pete Brilvitch

@ifti99 @Pete Brilvitch To be honest. I haven't seen enough of Flores to tell you if he can play SS or not. I do know that Nunez isn't a good defensive SS. Saying he's worse than Duda is saying alot. In my opinion, the Mets have only had a few outfielders that were worse in the field.

Pete Brilvitch
Pete Brilvitch

@4EverMets @Pete Brilvitch@ifti99  I'd say that Flores is more unproven than questionable. He did get hurt shortly after he got called up so I'd wouldn't put too much stock in the low batting average. I don't know if Nunez has proven anything either. Decent bat, but I think Flores has a higher ceiling.
