What’s on Tap: Mets are off

The Mets are off today, with both major- and minor-league facilities closed for their only off-day of the spring.

Terry Collins said he will begin starting his regular position players, while letting starting pitchers go deeper in games when the team returns to action Thursday when Zack Wheeler faces the the Braves.

The big-league team will leave Port St. Lucie in eight days. Opening Day is March. 31.

Rumor has it that Rollins from the Phillies wants to go to the Mets. Wow!

If you want the team to win then the photo above is the answer at Citi Field. Period.

How many .270 hitters are on the team?

Win 90 games? How? How many .300 hitters are on the team?

Players are probably saying  Yeah no baseball today!  Lets go to the beach, go fishing or golf followed by some night life.

Harvey has some ego, sensitive to slights, has Boras as an agent ... when he hits Free Agency, watch out, the Harvey/Boras team will be trying to set records.  Arbitration eligible after 2015 (no super two for him, good job Sandy), then three years of arbitration.  Mets will look at 500K, 500K, say 2M, 5M, 10M in arb awards (assuming he stays great).  Mets should make deal now to buy out say two years FA at say 32M ... that would total 50M over 7 years.  I would bump him to 2M for this year, then 6 years @ 8M ... Lock him up to age 31 season, then let him walk or trade him at end for young talent to reload.

Some risk he doesn't come back the same pitcher, but the longer they wait to lock him up, the harder it will be to buy out those FA years.

A picture of empty seats.  Perfect.

I actually think the Drew posts will become more appropriate as the available inventory of SS who the Mets could acquire show that there really is no doubled tooled talent out there to be had and the asking prices are for pieces that nobody wants to give up. not that high on Drew, but prefer to keep talent, spend money and bide time until better SS talent becomes available the value of our prospects this year. how about 2/24 for Drew and move him to 2B next year when you sign Asrubal Cabrera or acquire some similar level talent. time to move on with Murphy next year, he simply is not going be worth the $7M+

Enlarge the above picture of empty seats and that's what will be at Citi by say mid May. Just sayin.

Plenty of time to do Drew posts.

@greekgod You know how I know this is a complete lie?  You said a player, not named David Wright, wants to go to the Mets...

@Dr James DiTuna Whether it's productive or not, at this time it's probably our best option.

@Dr. James DiTuna  ike will start over duda

@Dr. James DiTuna

problem with lineup is that so many of those guys have really bad splits ... need some platoon partners

And huge amount of Ks in that lineup

@Dr. James DiTuna Maybe at  AAA not MLB unless they are satisfied with 4th place again.  A lot of good pitching will go to waste.

@Dr. James DiTuna I like Den Dekker.  Steals bases, great defense, can hit and hit for power.  Smart player.  Even as a reserve he would be good to have on the team.  Can get you runs in a lot of ways.

@joe21 You wouldn't give Murphy 7mil who gives you very good offensive #'s

at 2b, but you would give Drew 12mil next year to play 2b ?????

@Dr James DiTuna Statistics show that a platoon of Duda and Satin would give above average offense at 1b.

@Dr. James DiTuna  If the 20 HRs comes with 90 RBIs, yes. Remember, he hit 15 HRs last year, but only drove in 33. I'd obviously like to see an external solution, but I don't think that's happening. If I have to choose between Ike or Duda, I'll take my chances with Ike. I'd also take Flores as a righty platoon over Satin.

@Pete Brilvitch

Give him a little break in that he had Davis hitting in front of him for most of first half ... Duda was OPS-ing around 1,000 for early part of year, but nobody was ever on base in front of him!

@nc95 A future righty/lefty platoon of Lagares and Den Dekker could be possible: Think 1986 with Mookie Wilson and Lenny Dykstra.
