Wright gets another hit and scores with solid base running. The Wright haters are silent. Neither statement surprises me.

Anyone that follows baseball knows howling the season is.  Things can turn week to week.  Even day to day.  But water generally finds its level, and all you have to do is look at this team and it is obvious as built, it is closer to the bottom of the division than the top.  There is really almost no talent in the starting lineup, and there isn't a single player I would actually stop what I am doing to watch take an AB.  Who exactly do you want up at the plate late in the game, with the winning runner on?  And who out of the pen do you trust to get a player like Stanton or Fremman out in a similar situation?

May 8th and the new talking point is can the new SS actually catch a ball.  Sad.

You can cheat too by making the outfield fences too far. You're cheating by allowing your pitching staff to get away with mistakes they wouldn't otherwise get away with in smaller ballparks.  Every ballpark in the American League East plays like a bandbox.  You want to brag about your world class pitching staff? Put them in Camden Yards or Fenway for a season and see how they do.  Ballparks with tight dimensions AND a $15M DH instead of an automatic out in the 9 hole.

Citifield makes for boring baseball.  Extremely boring baseball.  For pure entertainment value,  I'll take the Yankees and Red Sox at Fenway anytime.

"Last season, Backman led the 51s to their first Pacific Coast League playoff berth since 2002.

The fiery Backman, who won a World Series title with the 1986 Mets, guided the 51s to an 81-63 record — the second-best in the PCL — and the Pacific Southern division crown"

^^^^ This, plus the 23-10 start in 2014 = #FREEWALLY

Do you think attendance would go up considerably at Citi if Backman was the skipper and most of the young guys were called up?

hitting problems start with citifield does anyone know who designed it?   Its like a golfer on a tee

box that is lined with trees  it gets in your head

and that makes the hitting suffer . . . that being said

this is essentially same group of bad hitters,

subbing granderson for byrd

To be only 3 games out the way this offense stinks is huge. The management will still wait too long before making good improvement. This team will not contend until ALL management is changed. Management has to care first.

Haha another huge roster move is coming. The triple A shuffle; in with the old and out with the garbage

So our "big" roster move is the promotion of Wilmer Flores.  I have news for Terry and Mets management: this move ill make very little difference in wins and losses for the Mets.

Now is the time to pray hard for our Mets...

how come when the Mets lose a few no opinion polls on the direction of the team but when they win a few we get bombared with them.

We got beat by the Fish and now they are first in the division. F the Fish!

@Macacawitz  I was just thinking that if the pitching is supposed to have so much potential, what is the harm in bringing in the fences?  I totally agree with you.  I'd much rather see Met hitters actually produce.  but I also believe that the ballpark is only a part of the problem.  Here in SF, the park is pretty ridiculous, but the Giants still score at home and don't have murderer's row.  They just have a major league lineup, which the Mets do not have.  The Mets have excuses.

@Macacawitz  IDK what you are smoking, but Yanks are pretty awful to watch. The announcers are lifeless, starting pitchers are worse that those in the Mets and the batters look like a bunch of jerks who don't care about their team. And their stats are not very different from the Mets'. And the Yanks are cocky(or stupid) enough to use pine tar openly against the same team twice.

@Macacawitz  Put Backman in the dugout and watch how this group of PERENNIAL NANCY BOYZ begin to play the game of baseball like Men; Men that don't give a crap where the play, where they pitch, or where they hit.  They need a Leader, a Winner, an Overachiever.  They need Wally Backman.

@BadContract  You don't want the Mets to be labeled as a AAA team playing in the Majors, again, as it has been for the past few years.

90wins
90wins

@BadContract  That would be too much for the fans. Citifield will be as empty as Marlin Stadium 1-2 years ago.

D

@BadContract  Yes no question, because unlike Terry Collins... HE WOULD PUT THE TEAM IN A BETTER POSITION TO WIN, and WINNING = FANS ATTEND GAMES

Mets got crushed in Colorado and Miami. That had nothing to do with Citifield. I personally think Citifield is way better than Yankee stadium. The latter feels like a closet compared to Citifield. And Grandy is getting hot. His average went from something like 110 to 175. I am not sure if Byrd was hitting a lot of HR in Citifield. I do miss Byrd though, better than C Young.

Michael Paulsen

What do you want to do? Move the fences in more? It's already become sort of a band box for homers. I like the original design, except I would have lowered the left field wall to align with fans being at playing level.

Father Dooley

@Bob Burket And I wonder: are the MetsBlog writers actually excited about this "big" roster move? (the promotion of Flores).  Or is it all an act?

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

@Michael Paulsen This has been the Mets strategy since Sandy Alderson has arrived.  I am starting to wonder how much longer this team can operate this way.

rustysribs

@Father Dooley ...and pray they give Flores a legitimate shot to prove himself...not just a few weeks of platooning. Defensively, I can't see him being that much worse than Tejada, but offensively there is so much more potential. Will it make a huge difference? Probably not unless they fill in some of the other missing pieces. But, it's a start.

@90winsYou should be f-ing the people actually responsible.  Wouldn't you really like to have Marlon Byrd here right now instead of your total failure?  Your 60 Million Dollar Man?

@johnsec125  If the Phillies win today, the Mets will be dead last in the NL East. Why don't they DFA TC. Management is under performing in this team

Macacawitz

@90wins @Macacawitz  The Yankees scored 9 runs last night and drew a sellout crowd in Anaheim for Jeter's last visit.  The Yankees are still Hollywood, the Mets are Hollywood too, Hollywood, Florida.  Who cares about the announcers when you have that lineup, plus Tanaka who draws more media to his starts than the Mets draw fans.  To a large extent they've regained their mojo, a half billion dollar investment will do that.

90wins

@BadContract  FFS, we were supposed to get 90 wins this year, 4th or 3rd is not going to cut it.

@90wins Grandy is getting hot.  He went 2-10 against the Marlins, had a solo homer, which was his only rbi, and struck out 4 times--AND--his average went up.  He's hot as a pistol.

@Father Dooley @Bob Burket  I get you but this is a metsblog.  If they do not report this type of stuff 1) they have nothing to report and blog about 2) we arent informed.  So though I get the sarcism, in this case I am not sure its warranted.  LOL

90wins

@rustysribs @Father Dooley  Flores is not as agile as Tejada on the field. Flores has about the same range as Murph. So defensively, I would put him on Par with Q. I just hope that his bat will be as good as it was in the minors; in the 300's

hashburry

@Macacawitz @90wins  Funny, Met fans have so little to root for, the announcers are constantly referred to as if they make a difference in the standings.

D

@hashburry @D @Macacawitz  Have they, or have they not, been PUSHOVERS for years now?  The last how many years, when the mets get punched in the mouth... when have they actually Punched Back? I will be waiting.  And this goes back to even before Terry...

@hashburry @D @BadContract  oh, Hashburry just told me what it is, I guess I'll go curl into a ball to appease him

@BadContract  It is my mission as a Mets fan these days to do my part to get the right guy in the dugout for this team.  I will hashtag the living daylights out of this until Sandy and the Wilpons finally get it

@90wins @nooger

Consider that Granderson hasn't hit in any series.  He's also one of the highest paid players on the team.  He's pretty much a bum, a bust and a waste of limited financial resources.  Can you name any "good" player who has more career strikeouts than hits?

90wins
90wins

@nooger @90wins  Everyone else in the Mets was barely hitting in the Miami series. Miami had 3 CY Young caliber pitchers.
