according to sources, Jeff Wilpon was repeatedly inquiring about what was happening regarding Ike and the "Three million he is being paid to sit"!  I guess Sandy just got tired of this and basically just gave him away.

15 under .500 last year, more of the same? Hard to have a home field advantage when your fans hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Calling for D'Arnaud to be sent to the minors is the apex of stupidity

How long before they send D'Arnaud down?  How long will his "framing pitches" keep him in the majors?

I really don't like the Mets philosophy on hitting.  First, it's not working and rarely has over the past 3 or 4 years.  They're batting .219, 2nd worst in MLB.  Second, is Harang so deceiving he can throw 2 fastball strikes down the middle to David Wright, then on the third pitch, throw a low outside slider that David swings and misses at?  Finally, the Mets hitters seem to be great in the Minors, but when they come up, they don't seem to hit Major League pitching that well.  Management says they want controlled aggression, but what this seems to be getting them is a record number of strikeouts..  Last night Harang was aggressive with them, and they let him have his way.  I think they should approach a pitcher like that the same way they approached Bronson Arroyo. Don't let him get away with throwing fastballs down the middle in the beginning of the count.  Also, what's with Eric Young hugging 1st base all of a sudden at home.  On the road he ran on everything.  IMHO, the Mets are frozen at home and play like stiffs because they're afraid to be aggressive.  They seem to reflect the same attitude as ownership and management in that at home they're extremely conservative, and terrified to make a mistake.

Granderson will be fine. He is not our best player. He will contribute later on with the rest of the roster. David Wright is the guy, but teams are smart enough to know that. In a big situation he tends to walk a lot and get on base and the next guy gets out. Granderson should be hitting 2nd with Duda hitting cleanup in my opinion.

Lets take a poll: who is  going to hit more home runs? Duda or Grandy in 2014

I better see 20 HR from Duda this year

Is anyone else worried that Curtis Granderson is going to be another Jason Bay?

It's a shame Dilson Herrera is only 20 years old.. He's tearing IT UP in St. Lucie... in 65 AB's, he's hitting .338, including 22 Hits, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1HR, 8 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SB, and only 11K's. .389 OBP, .462 SLG, and an .850 OPS. He's listed as 2B, but I don't see a reason he couldn't be a SS.

When will we find out who the PTBNL is in the Ike trade I wonder?

Yes last night was painful, but it was just last night.  They have played well and moving Ike was a necessity that was finally addressed.  The move saves the team some money that it must reallocate in the acquisition of a better player.  I have a feeling they may try to meet Drew's demands; that acquisition could potentially get them to .500 for the season.  Next would be the bullpen, which is a disaster, especially at closer.  That's a bigger problem.

I think it's time to bring in Drew or call up Flores I just wonder how long the mets will go with tejada hitting under .200 it's a joke really a move should be made now

@7up17_2go Except he didn't. It is being reported that the other player is a blue-chip player but can't be announced until June. So take your negativism and stick it.

Absolutely! o'No! needs to be traded instead immediately

hashburry

@Anthony Giammattei  Their philosophy, no matter what they call it, is to have below average hitters on the team.  Generally, not the way to go.

@Randy Wilson Granderson batting second? Seriously.

There's no question that "K"urtis will be another Bay. That's what happens when you sign free agents NO ONE else wants. Is this really a surprise to anyone?

greekgod
greekgod

@Anthony Giammattei  Yes I am only because he is not winning games for us right now....what may happen later is any ones guess but it seems to me that his swing is to hit home runs instead of getting a clear hit.....IMO.

@dreamer3kx  Easy.....some players are not strong enough mentally when it comes to home crowds since Mets fans are very much into a game and love heavy hitters, so when they start booing the other bats cool down so to keep in par with the others. Comprende'?

If the Pirates had the Mets front office, I wouldn't be surprised if the PTBNL is McCuthen

Put Omar in as every day SS and give Wilmer a few weeks and then DFA Tejada and play Flores

Tarheel11

@mikepiazza3186  I have been saying they wouldn't sign Drew because of money and they needed to trade Ike first in order to free up his money.

Otherwise you are looking at the fact the Pirates are trading young prospects and taking on payroll while the Mets are unloading payroll. Gotta love the Wilpons!

@mikepiazza3186  Flores has played 10 games at SS at AAA.  He probably needs a little bit more time.  I've seen enough of Tejada already.  They really need to reconsider Drew.

@tierlifer @Gerard Farrell Dayum! He's hitting .407! With a 1.049 OPS.. Initially I was annoyed and thought "typical Mets" when we drafted him instead of Jose Fernandez, but if he can put it together, that's some solid offense coming up in a couple years

mikepiazza3186
mikepiazza3186

Yea tejada is not a mlb player it's a joke he can maybe every 1/10 at bats hit a blooper and that's it smh it's gross

Anthony Giammattei

@Gerard Farrell @dreamer3kx@Anthony GiammatteiWhat I mean is anyone wondering whether or not Granderson will be a bust like Jason Bay was when he played for the Mets.  Will the fans have to go through it again. You know, big expectations, no performance.

tierlifer
tierlifer

@Gerard Farrell @tierlifer  The minors are where you develop, also Savannah is known as a hitters nightmare. Just look at Wrights numbers when he was there so last year he really wasn't all that terrible if you put it into perspective.  Just don't get why people were so quick to jump the gun on this pick and kid after his brief minor league career.

Jerry Colfer

I read that they can't move a draft pick from last year until after this years draft. There is some buzz about a 19 yr old OF prospect.
