What’s on Tap: Jon Niese makes his first official start of the spring

Jon Niese makes his 2014 Grapefruit League debut Tuesday at 1:05 pm against Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals in Jupter.

The game will air live on WOR 710 AM radio and on MLB Network.

Niese was sent to New York early in camp for an MRI of his left shoulder. He threw three innings during an intrasquad game last week. He told reporters he feels fine and expects to get in three starts before Opening Day.

Sandy,

Are you awake out there. Trade for SS. Trade, you remember what that is? No,no, it's not only when you have a VET that a contender will overpay for, it's when you have a big surplus of A and you need B.

See how that works, try it. Yes I know you have never done it before, but I think you will like it.

I was in PSL yesterday.  Niese did workouts with the pitchers early, and then headed over to the back field where Gee, Mejia, Familia, Goeddel & Verrett pitched the B Game.

Niese sat with the coaching staff -- and they regularly traded observations about Gee, Plawecki (who caught Gee & Mejia) and the Marlins hitters.  But when the Mets were batting, Niese went over to sit with Gee (and the AA kids who were most of the B team - Allen; Clark; Muno; Tovar; Campbell; Lawley; Nimmo; Plawecki; Cecchini) and either talked a bit of shop or just hung out.  It really made the statement that Niese & Gee are teammates - and teammates stick together.

Lannan was also an active "mentor" presence - but only to Jake deGrom.  The two of them ran & threw together -- almost like they were joined at the hip.

Another question.....who is going to lead off.......please don't make me laugh. They don't have a lead off hitter......

Ike still with the team? Duda still with the team? Tejada still with the team?

I can't stop laughing.....what a joke.

I've watched several games and come to the conclusion that the team is in for a shock (fans)

Lucky they win 75 games. Lucky. Who is going to hit in the fourth and fifth spot?

Why isn't there more coverage of Gee's performance on the B squad yesterday? I understand he did well.

PLAY LAGARES!!!!     PLAY LAGARES!!!!     PLAY LAGARES!!!!

Lagaras is batting .350 this spring. For a veteran that's no a big deal, but for a young, emerging talent trying to crack the starting lineup, I think it shows development, progress, and drive. He deserves a shot to prove EY isn't the best option, even on offense.

@chasesimms  They can't he doesn't have a big contract. The Mets are a joke.......they don't play their best players only one's with contracts.
