What’s on Tap: Jacob deGrom debuts against Yankees at 7:10 pm

The Mets wrap up their four-game, home-and-away series against the Yankees at Citi Field on Thursday at 7:10 p.m.

Making his major league debut, Jacob deGrom will start for the Mets. He’ll be opposed by Chase Whitley - also making his first big-league start - for the Yankees.

The game will air on SNY, and can be heard on WOR 710 AM radio.

Prior to the game, the Mets are expected to decide whether or not to place Travis d’Arnaud on the seven-day concussion disabled list. In case he’s needed, Triple-A C Juan Centeno was reportedly headed to New York from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Last night at Citi Field, in Rafael Montero‘s major league debut, the Mets (19-20) were shut out by Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees (20-19) by the score of 4-0 >> Read more at MetsBlog, ESPN, MLB.com, New York Post and Daily News...

The guy throws grounders. Can't wait to see him. He'll be a big part of the staff or a trade for a hitter. Either way-Mets win.

I am looking forward to tonight's game. Having DeGrom make is debut should be fun to watch. We finally get to see the young arms getting their chance at the ML level. Lets Go Jacob! And, Lets Go Mets!

I was not impressed with DeGrom during spring training. I just hope that the Yankee's rookie is worse and Grandy's bat gets really hot.

Guess that DeGrom bullpen experiment will have to wait for a while.  Good luck Jacob!

Glad to see Montero, now DeGrom. Also glad to see not DarNoGood.

I seriously hope DarNoGood is 100% healthy and lives a long happy life (just not in a Mets uniform).

The three guru's that announce the games over SNY should be arrested for BS. They claim that our new pitchers are like gods.......since when? Since when does a god like pitcher pitches five innings with 150 throws? Are you kidding me?

What bull sheez!

I still can't believe the amount of fans sitting at CitiField ....what arseholes.

A lot of good to decent pitching is going to go to waste on this team. Doesn't matter who we throw out there. It is what it is.

Time for some drastic moves with Citi field.Bring in the fences again.Long ball brings in the fans and we have the pitching.Players act differently hitting at Citi.Change this ballpark.Plus Wilpons add more seats.

Josh Edgin's numbers at Vegas were horrible. They would have been better off with the flawed Farnsworth in a set up role but of course the low rent Mets didn't want to pay him.

Good luck Jacob. Get R Done. Pitch a shutout and I'll guarantee you a tie.

Creative roster management DLing Gee. He's probably fine. Glad Familia stayed and Farnsworth sent out. Too bad the Mets can't play their home games in other parks. I still say when they play at Citi its the curse of Shea.

Love it that the young guys are being given a chance. Montero wasn't terrible. From what I saw of Tanaka, he looks good. He doesn't appear to throw much down the middle at all. He seems to depend on hitters chasing bad pitches and getting themselves out.

Tanaka pitches a full game........our  guys pitch to the 5th or 6th inning.

Tanaka throws 90 pitches........our guys throw 110 in the 5th or 6th inning.

WTF is all the hulabaloo about our pitchers!!!!!!!!!

I hope Gee gets well soon, but I can say I love seeing these young guns get a chance. If they perform well it might even motivate Wheeler to sharpen up a bit. I still think Mejia is better than all these guys.

the media talks about our pitching......well I saw a great pitcher last nite.....he's Japanese and pitches for the Yankees......THAT is a great pitcher!!

Sunshine gets his first MLB start tonight for the Mets.  Loved him in Remember the Titans.

Do you realize yesterday we had only one catcher....what if something happened to Recker?

Now this happens to every team....but why is it so much worse for the Mets.....because our AAA team is three time zones and 2600 miles away.

Why do we have a team 2600 miles away you ask....because Jeff Wilpon got involved with our old AAA team and well....now we are in the worst AAA venue in the game.

Thanks Jeff!!!

So many young pitchers, so few hitters/hitting prospects.  I wonder what could possibly be done in this situation,

@dreamer3kx . . .Montero had great poise for his first game. He did not seem intimidated facing the Yankee bombers. Good start. . . control should improve after more ML games.

@dreamer3kx He still needs work on his secondary pitches. Not impressed with the control of them but somewhat expected.

@dreamer3kx Yep and now with Degrom were seeing more youth here.Though Id like to see Collins not let a young pitcher throw more than 100 pitches in game...with all the injuries we see today.

@greekgod in few years you won't have to make anymore

comments about the fans at Citi Field because the Wilpons

will be moving the Mets to Memphis.

@Bob Burket

true - which on most of his starts the opposing hitters obediently do ;)

this guy is a great pitcher but I was also quite ok with Monteros performance. He kept it relatively close and with a bit better/more lucky defense yesterday - it might have been only 1-0 instead of 4-0

@greekgod He's an Ace...look at the rest of the Yankees staff.  What we have with out Harvey is a bunch of number 3 starters.  A deep staff, but one lacking an Ace.

Next year Havrey is back and Thor will be on the staff....possibly 2 aces

@BadContract  I just don't see Mejia as a starter logging 200 plus innings a year.  The "closer" role has his name written all over it.

@Jim Yager  Tanaka appears to be the real deal.  I think he had more to do with it.

I have to say, though, that I'm feeling really old.  I see the kids picture and the first thing I think is not, man I hope he has an electric arm, it's boy, this kid needs a haircut.

@1harris1 You're probably right. I still like the guy though. Wicked stuff, high energy, you can tell he loves being out there.
