“It’s a big blow to us, because we fought hard to get back in this thing,” Terry Collins said after the game. “We played very well the last couple of weeks to get back in kind of the mix. So, this is a big dent. I told the guys just a couple of minutes ago, ‘Let’s go win seven of the next eight.’ We’ll be back in the hunt.”
Collins said Thursday that Matt Harvey has been told (in conversations by phone with him and Sandy Alderson) that he will not pitch in games during 2014, so there is no need to push hard and try to make that happen.
The Mets re-signed 40-year-old Bobby Abreu to a minor-league contract and have assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Jacob deGrom said he feels good, but has yet to be told when he can return to a mound. He was put on the disabled list this past weekend with shoulder tendonitis.
