From 2009 through now, the Mets have played to a .498 winning percentage before the All-Star break and a .414 winning percentage after the All-Star break.  Presumably that at least partly reflects the Mets status in recent year as among the sellers, rather than the buyers, in the mid- and late-season transaction market.

I have a feeling Murph might be gone in the offseason...Colon I doubt since time is not friend of his.[surprised no team traded for him at deadline ]..hopefully Sandy improves this offense somehow..remember what one Gm said about Sandy'' he wants your 2 dollars for his 35 cents''

What no wild card standings today. Did we throw in the towel?  LOL

For those who are aayong there won't be any moves this off season just look at this past winter.

They added Colon, Granderson, and Chris Toung. Gone from last years first day were John Buck, Ike Davis, Marlon Byrd and LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice, David Aardsma and Shaun Marcum.

Some moves worked, others not so much. But there was an effort. So let's see what they'll offer for 2015.

Just woke up I had a dream that we scored 2 runs on 6 hits, is it true? Did we win?

Dump Collins!! Enough is enough. 8 games below .500. and this clown is pretending they are in the hunt. Lets see some fire Collins signs in the stands (and some we want Wally's) for the remainder of the season. Come'on we can put some pressure on and have a voice. As mad as I've ever been at Mets management. This can not continue another year when we are really only a couple pieces away from contending. I truly believe that. Now lets get a new manager to fire this team up next year

Why would they have any interest in a possibly better that average player?  The OWNERS have no interest in spending any more than the bare minimum.

Just think, we could have had Drew or Tulo if management had acted quickly enough. Or we could have traded away Wheeler, deGrom and Harvey for big bats. With two or three big bats we could have managed .500! All with big glaring holes in the starting rotation.

I can't wait for winter for Alderson to destroy the pitching and build up the offense.

anyone else find it interesting how this team has literally completely collapsed into a lifeless heap of garbage ever since the article came out which stated Collins will be back barring a total collapse?  Its almost like the players decided to tank at that very moment in order to have a chance to play for somebody... ANYBODY but Collins next year

I am starting to reach my boiling point with this team. I can't help it, I am getting more pissed off by the minute!  So what is going to happen in the offseason? Same ol' crap, that's what! This team Will Not make any external moves, instead pushing the same old minor league b.s. on us, as usual!

JetsMets71

Its not that the Wilponzis won't spend money, its that they can't spend money b/c they are broke.  They should have been forced to sell by MLB.

I also ask of Metsblog to stop putting the divisional standings up. It gets a little frustrating to see how they went from 7 games out to 13.5 games out after Sandy's stupid "september is going to be exciting" proclamation

For Pete's sake terry. Shuffle the lineup already. Move wright to 5th ad get grandy out of the lead off spot spot

Terry, please consider resigning.

But we can still go 31-4 and reach Sandy's 90 win season!

Sandy's "answer" to all problems offense is to NEVER go out and get external players.  Thus, the "Minor League Merry-go Round" is alive and well in Queens.  And how is it doing?  Here is an update of current averages of Sandy's "heralded" hitters from the minors:

den Dekker: .200

Flores: 229

Nieuwenhuis: .233

1) TC should be fired for in game mgmt.

2) Granderson needs to be traded.

3)The Mets lineup needs 3  more hitters(SS and 2 OFers)

4) Sign Melky Cabrera

5)Wipons need to spend an extra $28mm to bring team payroll to $110mm.

I think one of the major signs that the ownership group really does not care about winning right now is that Collins still has a  job. Yes, talent is limited. Yes, it is not all his taut...however, I dont know if I remember a team that keeps losing year after year and the manager is not on the hot seat..that the manager and Gm continue to get a vote of confidence. I can understand if they were improving year after year, but this team is not showing they are ready to make the leap forward.

The question is...at what point, after 4 losing seasons, after bad and boring baseball, do we see a change in management?

If Willie Randolph can lose his job the way he did...after 3 1/2 winning seasons and unfortunately 1 collapse...what gives Terry the right to keep his job?

If you look at last year's roster, you'll see how much worse the team was other than Harvey, replaced by Colon (major downgrade) -- but I think overall this year's team is more talented. And it's on pace for one more win.

Terry Collins may be a nice guy. He may hold the team together through adversity. But neither of those things make him a good manager, a manager who gets wins. Enough is enough already. I'm tired of employing someone whose number one skill is an ability to not let his team get down when they have a bad record.

Greg Nichols
Greg Nichols

Give him the opportunity. He's been playing everyday for 2 weeks. His bat speed is there. Now it's about adjusting to mlb pitching. Same thing about d'Arnaud and now he's been hitting the ball with authority. Give him time. And this .230 is still better than tejada's

@JetsMets71 Completely agree. I think it's criminal that Selig didn't push out the Wilpon's because they are friends.

One of these days the people here will realize this franchise is piss poor broke.

@Father Dooley  Three general managers in the front office, and the organization seems entirely incapable of making a trade.  When was the last time the Mets traded for a major league player of consequence?

@pointguard what's so great about Melky?  He looks like he's still juicing too.

Sign Nick Makakis.

@pointguard everything looks good but they are not increasing the payroll by that much from this season to next season. With CY gone...payroll is like 70 mill..you are asking for a 40 mil increase...

I LOL at that one...not happening =(

Father Dooley

@pointguard But NOOOO says Sandy and company.  We will just keep reaching down into the minors when we need holes to fill.  For we got den Dekker, Flores, and Nieuwenhuis!   Three bastions of power and skill!!!

@BerryBeltran

Collins averaged 75 wins in three years with the Astros -- they made the playoffs and averaged 94 wins in the three years after he was fired.

Collins averaged 77 wins in three years with the Angels -- two years after his team petitioned him to be fired, they won 99 games.

Collins has won 77, 74, 74 and on pace for 75 wins with the Mets. He gets a fifth year? It's ludicrous.

You can't tell me it's all about talent. Sometimes, managers are what they are, and sometimes underachieving teams can overachieve with a good manager like Dierker or Scoiscia guiding the way.

1harris1
1harris1

@DarrolRayFanClub  He's exactly what the front office wants: a guy who works cheap and does as he's told.  Everything else is secondary.

In fairness to him though, no manager is winning (or overachieving) with this team if Wright and Granderson are going to be this bad.

@sjm25 I wasn't Acting like Anything, man.  I was just saying... they were EXCEPTIONALLY bad since that article ran, and had a streak of 4 hits or less in 5 in a row.

@mustang66 I'm sure the Sterling business is fine. However, that is a separate entity and the Wilpons have never used either Sterling or personal finances to fund the Met's. What makes you think they will now?

If they were fine, then why did the Wilpons have to borrow 25M from MLB just to pay operating costs? I'm guessing that would have been a pretty good time to use some of Sterling's "profit".

They have continuously done things which prove how financially strapped the Met's business is. From selling shares of the team to pay down loans on the Met's to refinancing loans and not knowing until the very end of the process whether or not the lender would put limitations on their spending. They have continuously proven they are broke, at least the Met's.

theglider
theglider

At least tell all the facts.

The 1994 team played only 115 games. The 1995 team only 144 games.

I'm not questioning that they need change but at least don't resort to half truths.

Jimmy BX
Jimmy BX

This is a totally jinxed organization. The Mets are capable of generating tons of revenue but the Wilpons are unwilling to invest Sterling money to help the Mets become more profitable. It's why the Met fan is STUPID if they keep supporting this franchise.

theglider
theglider

Maybe they could have traded for Tulowitzki?

Let's see what happens this off season when every team is looking and not just contenders. Our young pitching is too valuable to have made a panic trade at the deadline.

DarrolRayFanClub
DarrolRayFanClub

@theglider And the '99 team played 133 games under Collins. That's why I used his winning percentage over a 162 season to get the average win total.

You must get off insulting us. If you were a real fan you would no we can't quit.

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@mustang66 Absolutely! But not to the extent that you have to sell off shares of said business in order to pay down some of your loans just to maintain ownership.

1harris1
1harris1

@theglider  And what will the excuse be when they do nothing this winter? Wait until spring training, or the trade deadline next season if necessary, when teams will be looking to make a move?

Alderson has his hands tied by ownership so it's not entirely fair to pin the blame on him.  That being said, it's legal to make a trade for major league talent which doesn't involve acquiring a high profile player, or one in which you're not fleecing the other team.  In four years under Alderson, what trades has this organization made which didn't involve trading for prospects?  Andres Torres? Should we consider EY a trade?  That's sad when those are the only trades that one can refer to in terms of acquiring major league talent which can impact the team immediately.

It's not just about what they did or didn't do this previous July.  Look at their body of work over four years.  I'll believe this front office will make a trade for a player of consequence this offseason when it happens.

BerryBeltran
BerryBeltran

@theglider I agree to save the pieces for the right move. I just dont think they make any move and rather see with Dek Dekker and these other guys can provide...and maybe make a Chris Young type signing for SS

BerryBeltran
BerryBeltran

@1harris1 I think we have to be ready for the disappointment again. I am not going into the off-season open minded anymore. I did that last off-season. Until this team is ready to properly fund the on field operations again like they used to..and with Sandy Alderson at the helm..money ball is here to stay. Prospects are the route this team is taking. It seems like they might try their luck with building a mostly home grown team...l

@Father Dooley @theglider Hitting is now the commodity moreso than pitching.  There are just not many hitters available and everybody wants the ones who are.
