In case you missed it…

Last night at Citi Field, Zack Wheeler gave up six runs over two innings, and the Mets eventually fell behind 8-0. They fought back but fell short, losing by the score of 8-5 >> Read more at MetsBlog, ESPN and MLB.com,…

After Wednesday’s game, the Mets optioned Wilmer Flores to Triple-A Las Vegas, presumably to clear a roster spot for Juan Lagares, who is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Thursday.

The Mets are open to signing Daniel Murphy long-term, and Murphy is willing to listen, but the two sides have yet to discuss a deal >> Read more at MetsBlog

I wouldn't mind seeing if EY can handle an inning at SS.
The beat reporters need to keep an eye on him today in Pittsburgh. Does he take infield practice before the game?

No back-up SS? Kirk goes back to Vegas (unfortunately) and that means here comes the return of Omar Q. Or, anybody else in Triple-A Vegas?

Who is their back-up SS?  EJ? Campbell?  This is a strange move.

I figured they would keep Campbell, since he's a something of  an universal sub, but didn't know he was a serious SS option.

If you don't read these comments regularly, you would think Flores is the 2nd coming of Ernie Banks. And please stop commenting on his trade value, if he had any, he would have been gone in the offseason. Every organization has a flores, a player with a decent bat but no true position.

Now watch Tejada go 0-20.

I truly think that the Mets are making a big mistake by continuing to send Flores down. They are messing with this kid. Flores has nothing more to prove in AAA. The kid is ready to play in MLB. Mets need to trade Tejada and give the job to Flores. Tejada will never put up the numbers that Flores will put up.

Replace Daniel Murphy with Jose Reyes and you have EXACTLY what was written 3 years ago....how did that work out?  we are still looking for a ss.

Ahh i love metsblog....owned by the mets.

Leave it to metsblog to continue to tout and report on a guy you literally cannot see.

Since we have given up on trying to sell the mets and have moved onto trying to sell a player we literally cant see....who is S'garrd pitching against in AAA?  Might as well go all out metsblog.

@Joe Paulson they said Campbell 1st then Wright, but whatever..Flores should be working on his SS down in Vegas..although if Murph IS traded Flores could be slotted in at 2nd…hmmm?

Eddie_Dean

@citifield How can we expect them to take on that contract and gamble that he'll return to his former self? Unless the Dodgers are willing to pick up 50% of his remaining salary, I can't see that happening.

Yes, d'Arnaud looked good at the plate last night. Some hard hit balls, but one pop up.

@Tarheel11 and great plays, offense from perhaps the leading team in the AL and Wheeler having a bad day

@Mont5 ahhh but alas....he might get some walks....and we sure do value the ability to see four ball before 4 strikes

Steve Finelli
Steve Finelli

@Mont5 Flores will give up more runs than he produces.  He can't field the position.  Play him exclusively at ss in Vegas then let's see.

Joe Paulson

@shea Murphy isn't going to ask for six or seven years, over 100M.  So, no.

Eddie_Dean
Eddie_Dean

@shea Don't forget R.A. Dickey. I think Murph is getting traded the moment someone offers either a legitimate SS prospect who's currently at the AA level or above, or a major league corner outfielder with pop.

Brian McCarthy

Thank God we didn't sign Reyes. He has done nothing since he left.Should have traded him.

@Steven Matregrano @A Pocono View_ I'd take out the word "loss" ... it was deflating performance by Wheeler who seems to be okay every other game or something. It was not deflating aside from that. Oakland made great play after great play to help them stay in the game. The Mets also had their usual struggles with pitchers they never see.  The game in effect was over after that dubious third strike call in the 9th ... not (as many might think) in the 3rd inning.

@Steve Finelli @Mont5 I haven't seen any evidence yet that he is a detriment at SS. Is he Ozzie Smith? No. But then again neither is Tejada.

Joe Paulson
Joe Paulson

@Eddie_Dean @shea The guy -- who is pitching okay for Toronto -- who brought back Syn and D'Arnaud? A 40 year old isn't quite the same thing as Murphy though I guess for that return (a bit more than AA level SS) would be interesting.

Eddie_Dean
Eddie_Dean

@Brian McCarthy I wouldn't say Reyes has done nothing. His one year in Miami was about 100x better than anything the Mets have had at the position since he left. The last two years in Toronto his career's gone down hill, I'd agree. But that's in part because you have an injury-prone player playing on that hard surface up there. If the Jays were willing to pick up a sizable chunk of his severely back-loaded contract, I'd take him back here in a heartbeat over anything they have now.

@mrgee they keep reporting and selling Syndegaard....as though he was a player you could actually see.

Things have gotten so bad they have taken to promoting AAA players 2500 miles away.  If he does well, you can rest assured Metsblog will tell you tomorrow....if he has a bad start it will be like a fart in the wind...simply forgotten.

Francesa may be a Yankee shill, but he is very knowledgeable about sports in general. When it comes to the Mets, however, his nose is bent out of shape and his take on that team is often old news or else just off the wall. I admit it's an interesting rumor.

Then watch the games. He drops balls, doesn't get to grounders and has few instincts. When Daniel Murphy has to tell you to tag a runner then you know the kid is lost.

@shea I'm not sure you've either watched a baseball game, understand how the minors work or can even talk coherently.

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

@hankypanky There's been a couple of times where he's either broken stories on the Mets or has had leaks on something being done and it ends up happening.  Probably less so now with Sandy here and the awful relationship between the Mets and FAN.
